To see how they had changed or improved the system that they themselves (Luhnow, Mejdal) had helped to create there in St. Louis does make some sense, along with the competitiveness and the jealousy/revenge elements. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...unless the imitation was far superior and they couldn't handle it knowing Luhnow had surpassed them. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...unless the imitation was far superior and they couldn't handle it knowing Luhnow had surpassed them. They didn't hack the Astros to steal prospect info and draft better, they did it to find out if the Astros stole proprietary information related to the program they were using. When this hack was done the Astros were in the middle of another top 5 pick season, they weren't jealous. So, 0%.
caulfield12
They wanted to make Luhnow look bad by dumping that information into public view and nearly every detailed article written on the situation mentions many front office members were extremely upset that Luhnow was getting so much attention and credit for the results on the field (while still with the Cards), vis a vis Mozeliak/LaRussa and the players themselves, etc. Not unlike the KW/Ozzie squabble, or Scioscia/DiPoto. Controlling the narrative...and, if they couldn't do that, make him look like an ass. Infinity %. Edited July 3, 2015 by caulfield12

But please go on Of course, anyone who has watched an episode of Silicon Valley would know that's what you have to say legally...protection of a proprietary database/work-related product, etc. If it was that simple, though, we never would have heard a thing about it. And it was multiple hacks from 4-5 different employees whose supervisors may or may not have known what they were doing. caulfield12
http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/ber...3631c7e6f0.html "Mr. Correa denies any illegal conduct," Williams said. "The relevant inquiry should be what information did former St. Louis Cardinals employees steal from the St. Louis Cardinals organization prior to joining the Houston Astros, and who in the Houston Astros organization authorized, consented to, or benefitted from that roguish behavior." Wow. Just hand Correa a Louisville Slugger already. He's going on the attack in an attempt to portray Luhnow and the Astros as the true criminals and villains here. I'd call this the Revenge of the Nerd, but I've already used that motif and it's too easy. Besides, I'm confused here.Who are the Alpha Betas in this plot, anyway? The Astros or the Cardinals? Yeah, that's going to work well for him!

Boopa1219
Wow this guy is pretty accomplished and again, the sox should hire him. After several years in the Cardinals’ brain trust as an analyst, Correa was promoted to director of amateur scouting. That position oversees a staff of more than 20 scouts who fan out around the country to evaluate amateur talent. It is the same position that Luhnow held for seven seasons before leaving the Cardinals to become Houston’s general manager in 2011. In 2009, Correa left a doctorate program at the University of Michigan to work on a contract basis with Luhnow, then director of amateur scouting and farm director for the Cardinals. Among Correa’s early duties was taking statistics from college baseball and merging them with the scouting evaluations the Cardinals had in a system that was called STOUT. Later, Correa used his background in psychology and research to help the Cardinals identify and measure leadership qualities, how a player handled failure, and other traits associated with high-level success. Correa helped the team advance those evaluation tools after joining the front office full time. He was promoted to manager of baseball development in 2012. Guys switch organizations all the time for promotions and other reasons. you never see this level of paranoia. They think Luhnow stole their program and called it his own. Instead of asking the league to investigate, they hacked in to find out for themselves. I dont think it is paranoia as much as it is "That guy owes us money for stealing our property", but that is JMO

Oops. That is just the straight up dumbass part of all of it. Whoever released that got Correa(and possibly others) fired. They probably thought it would be hilarious to embarrass the Astros by randomly leaking that info, and then it turned out it led to them getting busted.
