Gillaspie has to be trade bait as well because he's not playing either. Love that Saladino is playing short. His defense has been pretty good at 3B.

No one is trading for Connor Gillaspie. Unless it is for some sort of minor league filler.

He was traded originally for RHP Jeff Soptic. Soptic, by the way, still hasn't gotten out of A ball or solved his control issues (he's still walking nearly a batter an inning). Gillaspie's value went up, but now is likely back where it was. That's what you're likely to get - some A-ball reliever with one tool that gives him a very outside shot at being something later.

That is one horrible lineup. The only way this team could have had a good offense is if the meat of the order, Cabrera, Abreu, Laroche, Garcia raked this season. Eaton and Beckham are average to below average ballplayers; Flowers is below average catcher; Sanchez and Saladino are not big league regulars for any other team.

It would have helped if Eaton raked this season as well. If he was a .320 type basher. I'd say this one has 7-0 loss all over it or maybe 7-2 if the Sox are hot.

Eaton has been our 2nd best hitter this season. Saladino will be a utility player but I think very useful one.

Actually it's 47.1264367816 % . 41 is not even half of 87 so it can't be over 50% unless you put in a wrong number in your post somewhere.

I did in fact type in the wrong number. My apologies. The Sox have scored three runs or less in 49 of their 87 games.

Yes, but Eaton still is not anybody another team would ever covet. Saladino is likeable, but just another guy.

On the post game show I caught the comment where the Royals are apparently interested in Shark.

Mark

Shark for Colon straight up. Colon immediately is our second baseman the next 10 years. I really don't think the Sox are going to make any moves though. They think they are in WC hunt and are comfortable with this year's payroll.

A 26-year-old minor leaguer is our 2B for the next 10 years? Ok...

He may be a decent player, but let's not carried away. But then again, it's you saying it.

Colon I think was a top five draft pick. I don't think Shark's gonna get dealt though. Maybe right before the break. No team is going to give up squat that late.

Inter division trades are usually hard, however, with Shark an impending FA, I think the risk of the deal haunting the Sox long-term is minimized, which then means the ball is purely in the Royals court, and to be frank, the upside of a potential World Series, probably would negate their normal concerns with trading within the division. Additionally, the Sox and Royals have actually made some trades in the past (Getz for Teahen for example).

I will also point out the Royals farm system is middle of the pack and the bulk of their top prospects are pitching prospects, so I'd think if we made a move with the Royals, we'd want to get a 3rd team involved who had interest in their pitching prospects and would flip us some positional talent. Heck, maybe Boston is that team. Boston might be serious about moving their young Cuban and they clearly could use some pitching prospects. Of course their #1 prospetc is Mondesi, a SS (Ranked in Top 25 by 2 major publications in their midseason list). He has issues with patience, but people love his tools. His stats are nothing to write home about though, so for him, the risk is much higher. He's also had some back issues, IIRC.

Conor not being in either lineup is kind of a telling sign.

Definitely looking like a DFA candidate, come Sunday.

I would think they'll go back to a 7-man pen on Tuesday, and Gillaspie will be gone...well, him or Bonifacio. But my money is on Conor right now.

Conor can hit a little - maybe more if he had some coaching.

Bonifacio is useless.

41st time in 87 games played this year the Sox have scored three runs or less. That's 56.3% of their games. Incredible.

Another fan asked "when will this team start hitting?"

Given that over half a season is in the books the probable answer is "not this year."

As Kenny would say, "it is what it is..."

Good to see you here, Lip.

I will say this much. For about a month now Alexei's defense has been much better. He is back to a -0.1 dWAR. I remember seeing him as low as -1.5.

It's bee a tough year, but I really think this is not a normal thing nor a slow decline over the years. He has done pretty well in the past

And Sale will hopefully be healthy. I know you treat the Royals games like I do the Cubs games, but giving Sale a few extra days is a good thing.

agreed plus no matter what game Sale pitches it's only one game and hopefully one win. You have to have faith the other hurlers can do their job
