Something brewing with #Athletics and Scott Kazmir. He just came out of Bob Melvin's office. Asst GM David Forst also in clubhouse.

Kazmir now hugging teammates goodbye. #Athletics will have new starter for today's game vs Blue Jays

Questions:

Does that 100% cover Houstons pitching needs or do they have more?

How is that return? Anyone know anything?

Both ranked in the Astros top 30 on mlb.com at #19 and #22. However, Nottingham is only 20 and at high A and has killed the ball this year. The pitcher is 22 at high A and averages a strikeout per inning.

or that teams really won't give up much for a rental

They wait too long. The "sellers" market became "not that much of a sellers market" pretty quickly. We will late until last day and get some reliever in AA and be like "well you don't know what the market was like!"

If that's the case, you take the comp pick in the off season. That simple.

Real nice trade for Astros, as they got a good starter without giving up any of their top 10 guys. Kazmir's numbers are surprisingly great this season.

I think once they update the prospect list, Nottingham would of been much higher on the Astros list. Kid is having a year and is only 20

It never seems to work out in our favor does it.

But you saw the winning streak, this team coulda been a contender!

Even when we were winning, I still said the defense and offense sucked too much and it was time to put the focus to next year (while still potentially buying). If things worked out and you end up winning, great, but I'm not not making moves when your playoff odds are below 5% and your team has sucked defensively for 2 full seasons (and now most of a 3rd season).
