southsider2k5
Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 2h2 hours ago #WhiteSox starters have gone 37 1/3 combined innings in the past 5 w/o yielding a BB (first time since 1972). That's what I've been saying since it was clear the team with Sanchez was playing much better defensively and even more so now with Saladino. Extra bonus points for both hitting well too . Chicago White Sox
Blue Jays lost in the 10th, so we're only 2 games behind them in the wild card race. I still think you trade Shark if the offer is right, but it's absolutely crazy how open the playoff picture is right now. None of the other teams in the mix for that second wild card spot are any better than us if the recent turnarounds from guys like Melky, Alexei, & Sanchez are for real. LDF
the thing is, it is not throwing in the towel, or trying to decide to make a run. for all the reasons that has been stated. which is a good excuse. but for these short satisfaction of winning or making a run to the wild card. but does that really help the future of a very promising young group of players who, with a new player or two, it would be better, but a hard choice to sell now. to acquire those missing players to ensure a better future, a future that can include continuous run for that playoff. CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) I'm so happy to see Rodon and Sanchez out there leading the charge today. If the Sox are going to have a sustained run of success it would behoove them to find another good starter and a solid starting 2B -- looks like that could happen. Sanchez has almost battled back to replacement level after that brutal start. I still think he's a 1 to 2.5 WAR player long term and IMO they need to bring Micah up, let him DH, and try and apprentice Sanchez the best he can while getting a start once a week at 2B. As for Rodon, obvious he didn't have close to his best stuff but what he did have was decent command on all three of his pitches. Hey, you don't have to throw 97, it helps, but you can certainly be effective without it, especially as a lefty. Hell, look no further than Q. _____________________ Exciting times and that's all you can ask for as a fan. Season is still a disapointment to this point and probably will be in the end -- but at least they are showing some signs. Avi and Laroche are problems but at least they only have 2 holes instead of 4-5 currently. Avi you let get his 600 PA and then another 600 next year and see what happens but Laroche needs to be benched. The Sox never admit sunk costs tho. Another arm chair GM suggestion is to bring up Thompson and let him split time in RF with Avi, where Avi gets to DH some and Laroche is moved to the bench. Jose seems to be playing a decent 1B anyways. I'm on board with the sunk costs and Avi things you said. Carrying dead weight in sunk costs like LaRoche and trotting him out there every day against all pitching is a huge problem especially in the middle of the order. That hole/roster spot has to be filled with a good player not some stiff because management made a big mistake. They only compound it be playing him to get their money's worth from him when a competitive team will likely create revenue they won't get playing the high salaried stiff. Unfortunately wanting a winning team with Avi trying to figure things out is also a problem . As much as he need's AB's his play hurts the team almost as much as LaRoche but he needs to figure out things fast . If he can't he won't be a part of a winning team here. Southwest Sider
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) As much as I don't think we are playoff capable, and knowing that we need an infusion of talent, I'd still love for us to make a push. Seen enough losing since 08. It'd be nice to finally have one of those ballclubs that kind of comes out of nowhere to be in contention. The division is likely out of reach, but wildcards are available. The hitters really needs to keep hitting. I think we have our pitching and in a better spot now... but hopefully these guys are due for 2 months of much better team hitting.

bmags
I was listening to game on radio yesterday, and one thing that excited me was toward the end of the game it seemed like he was throwing his change consistently. Far from the beginning of year where he'd show it 8-10 times per game, there were at bats where he'd throw it 3-4 times. Did that seem to be the case? Was DJ just misidentifying the slider? Good chance that he comes back next season is at least a #3 quality starter, if not a #2 type with upside to being a legitimate top of the rotation starter. I think he comes back next year and dominates. Rodon does have a 3.62 FIP and 1.1 WAR this season, Danks in 07 had a 5.54 FIP. Rodon has been very impressive to me in his first stint so far, if he can keep his control at all similar to yesterday going forward he will dominate. Well, Danks also fell apart at the end and completely ran out of steam. He was uneven but provided some fantastic performances in may/june/july. We'll see how Rodon performs as he pushes past his previous innings workload.
