Condor13
I've seen a number of places that Hoffman, Pentecost, and Norris will not be in the deal. Toronto got a steal in my opinion. Only issue will be Tulos health playing on the turf. CarGo is on fire right now I'd love to get him, just have no faith in RH or KW to get it done. BigFinn
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:25 AM) Too old school? Has there been another major leaguer with that first name since Wilbur Wood? You ask; the internet answers (from Baseball-reference): Wilbur Gary Bell, played as Gary Bell for Cleveland 1958-1967, the Red Sox 1967-68, and the White Sox on that awful 1969 team. Hawk probably has a story about him. Bob Wilbur Barton, backup catcher with the Giants, Padres, and Reds 1965-74 (went by Bob Barton). Wilbur Howard, played with Milwaukee and the Astros 1973-78. Wilbur Donald "Don" Wakamatsu, played with the beloved in 1991. Two interesting Wilburs from the past: Joseph Wilbur "Joe" Adcock, longtime masher for the Braves, among other teams - 1950-1966. Granville Wilbur Hamner, former whiz kid on that storied 1950 Phillies team, played with Philly from 1944-1958, Cleveland in '59, and the Kansas City A's in '62. According to Jon Morosi, RHP Miguel Castro is one of the prospects going to the Rockies.
BigHurt3515
Sounds like Castro and Reyes for Tulo. There has to be more minor leaguers then just Castro

Are we really going to judge this on his last 28 at-bats? From 2012-2014, he was a .759 hitter on the road. More alarmingly, his OPS during that three year time frame is only .720 after the All-Star Break. 644 in August, 718 in September. 12/49 against AL teams this year, 3 homers and 9 RBI's (AL West). Is it worth spending $42.3 million and dumping Avi for a player who's already peaked and has proven to be injury-prone for most of the last 3-4 seasons? It's a huge gamble. It's not one that Rick Hahn would take. Kenny Williams, probably, because he's a "name" player, 29, was once more or less close to a superstar, etc. Edited July 28, 2015 by caulfield12

Get rid of LaRoche some how CarGo has had some problems with injuries, but anyone is better then LaRoche, especially one that has 3 two-homerun games in like the the five games played. BigHurt3515
That seems like a really low value for Tulo unless the other 2 prospects are some good ones

nickofypres
I like the move for the Rockies. Reyes' contract is s***ty, but it pales in comparison to Tulo's. Moving that is a win here by itself, not to mention the Jays threw in Castro and 2 prospects. Can you imagine Tulo's health playing on turf? Bad stuff. Whisox05
Sources confirm #Rockies getting Reyes, Castro, Hoffman and one more player from #BlueJays in the blockbuster. https://twitter.com/jonmorosi/status/625912753069240320
Whisox05
Hoffman was viewed as piece #bluejays would use to get SP, instead used for Tulo. Does that make tougher for #Bluejays to get top SP? https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/625912862561710082 #Bluejays could still move Norris and/or Pompey for SP but would mean bleeding a lot of prospects now to go for it. https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/625912986155229184
caulfield12
Wow...Hoffman changes things quite a bit. Looking better and better from the Rockies' side of things at the moment, without even taking into consideration the 4th player. Essentially, they're saving about half the money they would have had to pay Tulo, they're getting a player in Reyes who might be just as if not more productive and adding essentially a Top Five caliber arm in Hoffman, a top young reliever and another piece. Good move if you're the Rockies, although he was their franchise player. Someone was guessing Marcus Stroman (asking price for Cueto), but that would be insane for the Blue Jays unless they know something nobody else does about his medicals. The Jays did offer lefty Daniel Norris, No. 1 pick Jeff Hoffman and outfielder Dalton Pompey in talks with the Cleveland Indians for right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Thought that was interesting, from the Toronto Sun. We also were offered a better glimpse into the true value of Quintana and Sale. Some of their sportswriters in TOR are giving up on acquiring a starter and begging AA to go after Kimbrel instead to solidify the bullpen and copy the KC model/blueprint, pairing Kimbrel with Schultz, Osuna, Aaron Sanchez and Brett Cecil for innings 6-9.
