caulfield12
Bottom line is that the A’s and the Reds didn’t exactly get blown away by the offers that were made (for Cueto and Kazmir, both teams wanted Stroman/plus/plus), yet in discussions with the Jays, they seemed to be shooting much higher than they actually got in return. Either that or neither team holds Toronto’s pool of minor-leaguers in the same high regard as the Blue Jays do. Time is running short and a creative way for Anthopoulos to make his team better would be to make the late innings a lockdown situation for years to come, rather than overpay for a starter who, at best, is going to make a dozen starts for him at an exorbitant cost. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/07/27/blue-...go-for-a-closer Edited July 28, 2015 by caulfield12
BigHurt3515
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 01:39 AM) Toronto Sun sports columnist I find that very hard to believe. 3 of their top 5 prospects for a 28 year old with an ERA over 4? I know he has multiple years on his contract but still

I know he has multiple years on his contract but still Perhaps he meant they were all offered individually....or take 2/3, but not all three? Not sure. It does seem way too steep a price to pay, regardless of Carrasco's stuff, he hasn't emerged as a frontline starter in their rotation. More of a 3/4 guy, not unlike an Edwin Jackson. caulfield12
QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:49 AM) Would you trade Rodon+Shark for Tulo? No way. I wouldn't even be willing to take on that contract if he was run through waivers. KW would claim him, but it's a huge risk from an age and injury history standpoint. Certainly wouldn't be sending Rodon to get it done...unless the coaching staff was 100% in agreement with ptac that the mechanical side won't lend itself to repeatability in his delivery and there's significant risk that he'll always be an inconsistent starter with great stuff but spotty command and an underdeveloped third pitch. caulfield12
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 01:33 AM) No more Hoffman? My desire to deal with the Jays just about died. That and the fact that they're co-competitor 1A (along with the Twins) for that WC spot. It would be pretty unusual for a team to make a trade that will be perceived as diminishing their own window of opportunity, vs. a trade to the Dodgers, Cardinals, Cubs, etc.
Bob Sacamano
We were not going to get Jeff Hoffman for a rental. Maybe Q for a package of prospects including him but not for Shark.

BlackSox13
With Toronto trading for Tulo they are obviously going for it as contenders as long as the Sox see their self as contenders there will be no dealing with Toronto. Now if the Sox are sellers, that's a different story. Things are becoming very interesting.
Bigsoxhurt35
Love Tulo but not Rodon love. I didn't want him. Too much money and injury riddled history. I'm rooting to get CarGo because he's fairly healthy and it would upgrade RF and we could DH him.
BlackSox13
With the contracts of LaRoche and Danks, I have a hard time seeing the Sox acquire CarGo and his contract.
oldsox
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 12:01 AM) Not saying we are going to do that, just thinking what the Rockies will want to try and do (get a SS prospect) Rockies already have two solid prospects at shortstop. One is Rogers, their #1 pick this year, and he will be on the fast track.
Dick Allen
Reyes looked horrible against the White Sox. Tulo is owed big money. The trade makes his contract total no trade and he picks up $2 million for the move. Does anyone really think that is something the White Sox would have been interested in? Honestly, not sure what Toronto is thinking. It's as if they want to give back some of their gains from the Donaldson move because they feel guilty. It's as if they want to give back some of their gains from the Donaldson move because they feel guilty. To me there is no in between with this. Tulo is either going to mash in that line up or it is going to be a total flop. In this offense starved season, at the very least, the Blue Jays will be fun to watch. bmags
Reyes was truly awful at SS, probably as bad as any defensive player on sox.
ChiliIrishHammock24
This really tempers my excitement about dealing with the Jays. Reid-Foley and Pentecost are still there, but would the Jays really unload that many good prospects in the same week? The smaller their supply, the less likely they would be to agree to overpay, which is what it may take to pry Shark on a surging Sox club. bmags
People seem to be really down on Rodon. If you have any trust for our player development, put it in our pitching team to get a pitcher with great stuff to harness his control.
