Lol you really dislike Avi.

There have been plenty of young players with exceptional physical tools to struggle the first couple years of their careers and still wind up reaching their potential. It happens. I believe Avi will come along in due time.

I do, very much. I acknowledge that there is a chance Avisail Garcia turns into a good player. But I also acknowledge that there is a chance every player in the MLB turns into a good player.

It might happen, but it very much probably will not happen.

Even if you have no faith in Montas he certainly has more value than a 2-month rental. Trade him to get a bat locked up beyond this year if you're going to move him.

Rentals are going for a lot.

But not every player has the same obvious potential showing speed, power and athletic ability. Plus the way he fought to come back early last year from the inury showed he is truly willing to work at improving and has some guts. I like that. To each is own.

Yeah, I don't get the Avi hate on this board by some. He's already showing improvement from last year, and he's young. Superstar? Most likely not. But he could be a .280 hitter than homers 20+ times a year. I'm not sure he'll ever be a great (or even good) fielder, though.

But that depth disappears in a hurry if you're forced to deal Quintana as a result of not possessing the financial resources (or projected season ticket purchasers) to go out and make enough meaningful additions via trade or FA this off-season.

It would, but I think trading other young starters like Johnson and potentially losing Samardzia in free agency makes Quintana safe.

Some of the dislike for Avi is on the same level or damn near what most had for Rios...

Ya I don't get it personally. He's in his first full season in the bigs and has been decent. The guy has the tools and will go on a run before the season is over. I Def don't want to give up on him this year or next. But I can see people saying he shouldn't be an OF

What's most frustrating is that he lost last year. Lots of solid to great players come up and have the sort of mild struggles at the plate that he's having and eventually put it all together...but now the Sox want to contend and he's the weakest link. Gets a lot harder to be patient with his development. His poor defense also makes it paramount that his bat reach its potential in order for him to be tolerable on a winning team. I think this is a spot where the Melky deal hurts because you really need Avi in LF where his defense might fit better. Of course, Melky is actually hitting, so that makes one of them.

Where has he shown improvement from last year?

I'd rather keep Melky in LF and put Upton in RF.

Only issue I see with this is if Melky doesn't want to / doesn't like RF.

Upton would play RF if we get him. If we get Cespedes, Melky would move to RF no problem.

Statistically, he is worse both offensively and defensively. No clue how you can say he is improving.

Adage to remember today (from one GM): Buyers make more mistakes than sellers because buyers are more emotional. Sellers are more

Sounds like a Rick statement.

Well it's true. Buyers are desperate, sellers are not.
