Bigsoxhurt35
Lol chuck going big @ChuckGarfien: You're asking who White Sox should get? A real coup would be Evan Longoria. Hahn wants long term solutions. He's 1 of the best 3Bs.
Chisoxfn
Chuck Garfien @ChuckGarfien 3m3 minutes ago Longoria is under contract until 2022. He's having a rough season (for him). His price is probably lowest its been.
iWiN4PreP
Oh Goodness, no chance. Would be ideal.
Chisoxfn
Longoria's contract isn't the bargain it once was, so I could actually see this working. I just think the Rays would probably want more then the Sox could realistically give up. Longoria has been trending downward though so you'd have to be cautious here (given he's signed through 2022). nitetrain8601
I'd do it. But we need multiple bats. Upton, Longoria, CarGo. Break the bank!!!!
Balta1701
Can Fulmer be traded? If we're trying to avoid things from the big league squad, Micah + Fulmer + Anderson + Montas could be close. If not then it's a price the Sox wouldn't do (Rodon/Quintana).

No, he can't be traded till the off-season. PTBNL exception no longer works.

Dick Allen
If the Rays want to leave that market, tradimg Longoria would really help them accomplish that. It is one thing losing good players because you can't sign them. It is quite another trading the face of the franchis signed long term. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Micah + Adams + Montas + Anderson... I still don't do that if I'm Tampa. Maybe they would but I wouldn't. They might actually do that. Not a bad package. 2 top 100 guys and 2 near top 100 guys. Problem with Evan is he has been the face of the franchise, which probably means it takes an extreme overpay and a much larger package. spiderman
A move like that would cost at least 2 or 3 of the top 5 prospects, right? Can the Sox afford to make a move like that? The farm system has improved, but has it that much?
iamshack
Yikes. I must say I am a bit confused about the dislike for CarGo but the love for Longoria. Longoria has not been the stud he once was for the last few years. The packages suggested above seem really rich for my blood. Also, the Rays are in a competitive position still. Not sure they would move Longoria for players that aren't mlb-ready at this point.

Chisoxfn
Longoria does get substantial value out of his defense, however, you'd have to figure it would decline later in the contract. He is on pace for a 4+ WAR season. Offensively the past two years have been nothing like his first 5 though and the contract arbitrage goes away to the point where he will be fairly paid. iamshack
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Seasons playing less than 140 games in last 5: Longoria: 1 Cargo: 4 No Coors Field effect to worry about Money owed: Longoria, $110 million/7 years Gonzalez: $37 million/2 years Fair enough, but he's really fallen off recently. I suppose he still has value given his contract, but not nearly what he once had. His defense has fallen off, his offense has fallen off in 3 of the past 4 years. Given this trend, and the mileage on him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him battle injuries and continue a general decline over the next several years. Does he have value? Yes...but is the disparity THAT large? And worth THOSE types of packages? Not to me. Edited July 30, 2015 by iamshack

I agree, there's enough red flags about him to make me not want to empty the farm for him, especially considering he's not particularly young or particularly cheap anymore. OmarComing25
FWIW, Longoria didn't even make the top 50 in trade value on Fangraphs. He was below Jorge Soler. Would you give that package up for Soler? I understand he's the face of their franchise, but that just pushes the price into the "not worth it" territory. No thanks. bigruss
His power has really dropped the past 2 years, wondering if that's age/wear and tear or something else. 7/110 is a really risky number but if they are willing to take a package of Anderson/Montas/2 others I would probably do it with the difficulty we've had finding an everyday 3b lately. While I won't trade Anderson/Montas for anything I really think it would be wise for us to trade at least Anderson for a impact, long term bat. I have zero faith in him being an everyday player in the bigs.

Buehrlesque
I don't see why the Rays would trade Longoria when they are ahead of us in the standings, but sure. It's funny how some of the same names from last winter are popping up again: Longoria, CarGo, Bruce...

It would be interesting to see what they do; if they have a chance to start stockpiling minor league talent again, given their payroll limitations, it may be tough to pass on that, although I don't really know if he's truly on the market.
