Bob Sacamano
How about picking him up to play third? .296/.331/.506 slashline. At the very least, platoon piece at third or DH.
fathom
Absolutely, as he excels vs LHP
Knackattack
Definitely would like to see him get some time in RF against lefties and DH Avi. Honestly I don't think his line is sustainable playing every day but if he continues to produce at that level he would deserve to play every day for us. Sox Fan In Husker Land
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) How about picking him up to play third? .296/.331/.506 slashline. At the very least, platoon piece at third or DH. Valencia has a career line against LHP of 326/368/497 with an 864 OPS. 16 HR 91 RBI in 586 ABs. The Sox as a team this year against LHP have a line of 235/282/336 for an MLB worst OPS of 618. So yes he would be very valuable addition for us as a batter against LHP. Wanne
Yes please! Offensively he's better than anything on the infield (sans Abreu)...that would be a phenomenal pickup IMO.

Balta1701
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) We are committed to Saladino apparently This year Valencia has played 6 positions, LF more than anywhere else. LF, RF, 3b, 1b, 2b, DH. Can you think of anyone who regularly plays any of those positions who is particularly weak against LHP? Are we carrying anyone who can play multiple positions but who doesn't get used all that much?

Leonard Zelig
Does DFA work like waivers where the worst records get first dibs?
greg775
No brainer to add him now and dump Beckham.
BigFinn
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) Does DFA work like waivers where the worst records get first dibs? It's like waivers with the exception that the player can choose to be assigned to a minor league team rather than leave his current organization. I think there is a 72 hour window for the player to accept the assignment, otherwise the player is waived. Valencia might not clear waivers, but if he did, the Sox could pick him up for league minimum.

Valencia might not clear waivers, but if he did, the Sox could pick him up for league minimum. If you claim him you get his contract. Since it would be prorated of 1.6 mill maybe 6-700 vs prorated minimum ONLY if he clears waivers. I would just claim him to prevent someone with a better record getting him. If he clears, he chooses and would likely pick the better team/offer if you are doing the minimum.
