with Sale and Abreu, i 100 % agree.

now Eaton is make a great case for that spot. Eaton hitting stats since july has been great, except for aug. however lets think about this, in order to get where he is in his avg, while batting #1 and all the pressure that comes with that. he has been short of spectacular.

let me emphasize, batting #1. others where constantly chg in the lineup to help them get started. he batted #1.

another one for me would be Q.... look at his stats. 200 innings for the past how many yrs ... but knowing the sox they would put Rodon up there.

That leaves 20 days.

Eaton's only true bad month was April, May and August weren't great but he was still a fine for a leadoff guy.

April - .191/.241/.256

May - .262/.325/.402

June - .276/.355/.459

July - .320/.421/.536

August - .259/.347/.333

September - .379/.438/.483

Pretty much his amazing July negated his April and he has been otherwise solid every other month.

I think he needs to be extended a QO. He is not as bad as he had pitched in the second half. Not sure if he is having arm fatigue or what but he has not been right in a little while. If he declines the QO the Sox will be fine and move on with a draft asset, if he accepts you have him on a one year deal for him to redeem himself and try to make up for the tens of millions of dollars he cost himself this season. If he performs to his career numbers you can move him at the deadline if or hold on to him and make a run and extend a QO next season.

I just don't think he's very good. Let him walk.

There is absolutely no reason to do this. I know there's some speculation that he might accept the QO, but that's not as bad as it sounds. If he has figured out what he's been doing wrong, we'll likely see a Samardzija closer to what we thought he would be. He's not as bad a pitcher as we've seen over the past month and a half. That time has certainly been an outlier in his career. It seems more likely, however, that he will not accept the QO and will sign somewhere else for a multi-year deal. The Sox then get a draft pick. Letting him walk is throwing everything away.

The White Sox considered offering Jeff Samardzija an extension of around $80MM when they acquired him last season, but Samardzija wanted to test free agency. Heyman reports that Samardzija was disappointed the White Sox didn’t deal him in July, since a deal would have allowed him to pitch for a contender and would have prevented him from being extended a qualifying offer.

Nothing came of it but I'm still impressed at how Chris Sale he wouldn't mind if the White Sox paid Jeff Samardzija more than he'll earn.

Sale's reasoning was that if the White Sox paid Samardzija it would mean they were winning, and he badly wants a crack at October.

i don't believe this...

he, shark could have sign for what he is worth. it goes both way.

sale should be begging the owners to really spend money this off season. go after price and then pick up separate pieces ....

And people were worried about that we weren't going to get a comp pick for him.

It was obvious months ago he wouldn't resign. Didn't get along with Cooper.

The question for me was always would anyone sign him by the deadline so that the Sox would get a comp pick.
