southsider2k5
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) Dave built and sustained the Montreal farm system which was considered among the best or the best in baseball for years. He's exactly what the Sox need to take over completely the minor league operations. Mark He is not going anywhere to be their minor league ops guy. He is either going to be a GM or a team President. Boopa1219
I guess he was fired for not adding to the roster and going for it at the deadline, we all know that their owner is desperate for a championship. Dombrowski appears to be a victim of his owner's desperation.

South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Sure but why? Rick Hahn is a good baseball man. He is?
bear_brian
In sports, as in life, opportunity only knocks a few times. To me, this certainly seems like one of those times, and it will be terribly frustrating if (as is likely going to happen) he moves on to another franchise. This guy has the kind of credentials, the savvy, the experience and the knowledge that our organization has not had for a very long time. And, at least IMO, desperately needs right now. bigruss
Seems odd that some rumors are pointing him to Toronto, why would he trade with them at the deadline then? I wouldn't imagine he'd really want to help them out for a rental piece, makes the current guy more likely to stay and takes a top prospect that could be there still if he moves over. Dick Allen
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) I guess he was fired for not adding to the roster and going for it at the deadline, we all know that their owner is desperate for a championship. Dombrowski appears to be a victim of his owner's desperation. The guy is in his 80s and he knows the clock is tickng. That is one thing people miss about JR. I think he is 78, and most of his investors are the same age or older. They don't want to invest 3 or 4 or 5 years in a totsl rebuild with no guarantee it will work. I think they wiill be doing a mini Illich trying to get back to contention.
bear_brian
In 2007 Kenny Williams thought he had a deal in place to acquire Miguel Cabrera. I remember that very well - it was a brief but heady moment. And guess who crashed that party? Dombrowski, who agreed to take on the contract of Dontrelle Willis along with Miggy. He won, Kenny lost, and that is a good picture of the two of them.
Dick Allen
The White Sox wouldn't just name a new scouting director if Dombrowski was coming. I think he is going to the Angels.

I don't remember Dontrelle Willis being refused by the sox and getting that deal nixed, it was just that Maybin and Miller were more attractive than Fields and others

Bottom line - Dombrowski delivered the goods, acquiring one of baseball's all-time best hitters.

I think he is going to the Angels. If he's leaving Detroit because of a meddling owner, I can't imagine he'd go to Anaheim to work with Moreno and Scioscia. Yes, he'd have resources and a well respected manager, but that mgr has a lot of clout and the owner is a freaking jackass (and as meddling as they come). AJUribe
Best gm in baseball. Countless of examples of great moves, when it comes to us he dealt us avi, you knew avi would never pan out simply bc DD would not have dealt him w/i his own division.
