I didn't want to start a negative thread so I'll bring it up here about Robin/Melky/LaRoche. Should Robin or Jerry talk to Melky about not being a clown and LaRoche about shaving? LaRoche looks like an idiot with that shaggy beard IMO. He did hit a bomb on Friday but aside from that has been an utter failure as a Sox.

Melky gets on base and bear-hugs the first baseman; then he goes to second and bear-hugs the second baseman. He starts yapping into the Sox dugout and does it a long time. Just for getting a hit.

I mean if LaRoche has to have the beard, fine. But Melky is disrespecting the game. He's saying "look at me" all the time. I mean, Melky, the reason they are paying you zillions of dollars is they thought you'd help win games and get the team in the playoffs. The clown behavior has to stop at some point. It reflects poorly on Robin.

We need a tighter ship, folks and that means Gardenhire!

Melky is the least of our issues. LaRoche needs to kindly go f*** off and disappear into the mountains somewhere where he belongs.

My guess with Melky remains that he was clean for 2 months and then resumed breaking the rules and hoping the testing regime wouldn't catch him. Only possible way a guy goes from that punchless to suddenly having huge power. But aside from that, if 3-4 guys on a team in the regular lineup all struggle for 2 months and under-perform...and they're not hurt, yes, that's the kind of thing that should fall on the manager for not having them ready to go.

I gotta say...the level of fraternization that goes on these days pisses me off too.

I can understand when two opponents run into each other and they want to squash a potential problem by slapping a shoulder, that's fine.

Hugging an opponent on the field during 162? That ain't cool. Not at all.

As far as beards, I'm not a fan, but it is what it is unless an owner or manager says "clean it up". I can ignore that a lot more than all of the ass grabbing with opponents during games.

And while I'm on a roll...the "get a single, look at the dugout, stir it up, blow it up, blow it out your ass" thing they're doing is stupid too.

This thread has gotten bizzare.

Melky is roiding and needs to stop having fun. LaRoach doesn't deserve to have a beard..... Fun stuff guys.

As you can tell from my signature below, I don't really think a manager have much of an impact at all. Buttttt I'm aware that not many fans think that way so to appease the fan base it is probably time fir Robin to go.

I will say that I want a manager who ALLOWS the fun stuff to happen.

This is one of those WTF posts that I can't believe I'm reading. Sounds like you did not watch any games before Memorial Day. Perhaps you were wrapped up with the Hawks bandwagon fans. Melky was absolutely crushing the ball for the first two months of the season and was the recipient of the worst luck I've probably seen ever by a player. Every time, seemingly, he came up, he crushed the ball right at somebody. Those balls are now finding holes and gaps. Check the stats on his BA of balls in play to verify this. No, he didn't all of a sudden start juicing again. He's a solid hitter.

That was a stupid post and I apologize.

Robin Ventura's record vs the AL Central has to be so bad.

Cle (30-39)- 11-7, 2-17, 9-10, 8-5

Det (27-41)- 6-12, 7-12, 9-10, 5-7

KC (24-45)- 6-12, 9-10, 6-13, 3-10

Min (35-34)- 14-4, 8-11, 9-10, 4-9

116-159 (.422)

That's like a 68-94 team against your own division. Over 275 games.

Everything is ok though.

Let's be real and let's be honest now. Really, how does Ventura not deserve to be let go? This is big business and this team is losing the fan base. How can the management and the ownership not be aware of this? I'm totally dumbfounded!!!

You have to take into account that with the enormous sums of money flowing into MLB I seriously doubt any team is losing money now. And that's not even taking into account "revenue sharing."

Unfortunately under those circumstances "winning" and "losing" may not be impacting the bottom line like in decades past. Unless an owner has the mentality of George Steinbrenner where the only thing that mattered was winning, it simply may no longer be an issue. Save for as I said, personal pride...maybe.

Great post. I said this in the game thread, but Melky jumping all over the Royals players and high fiving them after getting on base is hilarious (in a bad way of course). Melky is like the kid who plays for the 0-10 Little League team who gets on base against the 10-0 dominant team and tries to interact with the big bad opponent. Slap hands, hug 'em. The big bad opponent looks at him like, whatever dude, I'll slap your hand then continue to kick your ass. KC undefeated vs. Sox in Kauffman this season. LOL. Next time try to kiss one of the Royals, Melky. It's really a clown look.

Ironically attendance is up so far as they are averaging over 2,000 more fans per game. Now I would assume attendance will drop over the next 6 weeks but they will probably still outdraw last year's team.

They had a big surge of season ticket sales last offseason after the team did they're "we're going to compete this year" set of moves. They were going to beat last year's attendance based on that, and they still have series against the Yankees and Cubs coming up to help also. The problem is going to be that the season ticket renewals after this season are going to be pretty rotten.

They get the Yankees again at home, or do you mean Boston?

I think the nice weather generally helps as well. Weekend games, even with the team out of contention will get them at least 25, and sometimes around 30K if fireworks are in play.

This weekend, they should do 100K for the Cubs series.

Do you think if they continue to get clobbered in games leading to the Cub series they might only average about 25,000 to 28,000 per game? I'd think there definitely will be more Cub fans than Sox fans.

I doubt it; it's still the weekend, temp's are going to be in the mid 80's. Cub fans will come if Sox fans don't. I think each game will have at least 30K, and probably 35K each.

I wouldn't be surprised if two / thirds of the crowd this weekend for the Cubs series are made up of Cub fans. And I wouldn't blame Sox fans for staying away given the franchises performance certainly since September 2012.

Something else I've noticed which should be troubling to the organization. On the on-line version of the Tribune the past two mornings, not one word, one story is about the Sox on the page that first comes up on the screen.

As bad as the Sox are you'd think the "badness" would get some mention. It isn't.

The Sox are becoming totally irrelevant in their own city. Not blaming the papers in one sense (although from a journalistic standpoint it shouldn't matter what the team's record is).

My guess is that the majority of the season ticket holders who signed up this year after the off season spending spree on veterans in their 30's won't be back.

Cowley troll-tweeted in June "Why should the local papers cover the sox when they can barely get 20k in the ballpark in summer?"

I thought it was, as Cowley tweets go, completely unprofessional and stupid, but I feel like that is becoming more common.

Sox at least have a fair number of reporters in area who grew up sox fans which may help as I peruse Twitter at least.

Badness has existed since April so it is no longer news.

It's Bear season for the media. The Cubs managed to put a dent in it.

Makes sense although season tickets only increased minimally per Hahn. Last projections i saw said Sox would draw 1.9 mil based on advanced sales compared to 1.65 last year. But they have to worry about longer term season ticket holders dropping out as well.
