Once again, the curious nature of fans. Steverson should be run out of town the way the Sox hit. Walker was run out of town. Why? Well, Walker was a former player who didn't really hit well in the bigs for the Sox. So the cliche was he was no good, a clown. Steverson is some new age genius guy who people know nothing about. Yet he doesn't get blamed at all when he should have been canned weeks ago. There are so many cliches in baseball. It'd take a lot for fans to think Steverson is no good. He's a no name who has been deemed outstanding for some reason. Walker meanwhile is a clown for no reason.

this is not for me to make a call on the steverson vs walker debate .

all i have to say is, steverson is a good coach who help oak when he was their hitting coach. he has a philosophy, maybe some like and others don't. but i do, he works hard with anyone who comes to him including the minors leaguers.

but the point in what you are saying on walker, i have none.

Gotcha, thanks. Hopefully something clicked and he balls out the rest of the season.

If Avi turns it around hitting wise many may point to the 2 consecutive HR's in 2 separate games. I would point to the walk that brought home the winning run as an AB that may be even better.

2 straight IBB to Abreu and Cabrera loaded the bases with one out. That kind of thing tends to piss a hitter off and he's got to have an itchy trigger finger wanting to drive home that winning run. That's just what the pitcher is counting on knowing Avi doesn't take many walks and also hits the ball on the ground a lot. Perfect double play fodder.

But Avi ,surprisingly, shows restraint and doesn't offer at any of the crap the pitcher throws . He refuses to get himself out . He realizes the pitcher has to come to him with the bases loaded and he stays focused only looking for a pitch he can drive.

A walk with the bases loaded might not be the most exciting way to win but it's effective. If Avi can do that more often , the classic "stay within yourself" he might just have turned a corner.

Or maybe the pitcher was wild and Avi was frozen in fear :P

I don't get why people are on Avi in the first place. The guy clearly has talent and just because he doesn't come in and light it up from day 1, people want to give up on him. He's been fine this first full year and is not one of the Sox's problems.

He's been one of the worst outfielders in baseball and the White Sox insist they have a roster ready to compete right now. If they have a roster ready to compete right now then they can't afford to give time for one of the worst outfielders in baseball to develop.

This. This is exactly why I call him Fools Gold. He has already proven to not be a good baseball player at the major league level, I'm not sure why everyone still thinks he's good or has the potential to be really good.

They can talk mechanics all they want with Avi. It comes down to swinging at pitches he can actually hit hard, unless he's in protection mode. If he figures that out, he will be really good. If he doesn't, he'll be what he is.

This.

Defensively, well. That's another issue. But if he learns to hit, he'll at least be a positive contributor.

Because he just turned 24 and has only 800 career at bats? It's pretty dumb to write any player like that off so quickly.

maybe i am misreading this, but he does have potential and can learn. he is how old??

now whether he will be a gold glove defender or is one thing, now if he becomes a better hitter, then the team can work around that.
