While I have not counted the Sox out, common sense dictates that the prospects of making the playoffs having yet to play BOS, NYY, and the AL Central front runners for 5 of the first 6 months in KC are slim..... especially when MN plays CLE and DET. The Bones
I'm actually excited to see the sox go up against some of the top teams...honestly. What is the sox record when there are big crowds at the park? It has to be much better than when there aren't. They won on Monday & Tuesday, both half-price nights with larger crowds, then lost on Wednesday & Thursday, a non-promotion night and a day game. Before that at New York they took 2 out of 3 with large crowds as always in the Bronx. They swept KC at Kauffman when they were drawing good crowds. Don't forget the 4 of 6 against the Cubs which were all huge crowds and 2 of 3 in LA where the Dodgers have good crowds. We all know they got swept by Detroit earlier in the year in the middle of that 3-7 road trip to TB, Detroit, and Cleveland, three teams that do not have particularly large crowds. These are the teams we're going to face in the playoffs, if we can beat them and get in, so this is good for us. If we can't beat them we don't deserve to be in, I don't want to see us go 3 and out anyways. But if we can beat them and get in, we'll have confidence and momentum going into the playoffs and anything can happen. Besides, how often are the sox in a pennant race this late in the season? We're tied for 1st on September 12th. I'm gonna enjoy it while it's here. If we lose, we're losing to the best, I'd rather see that than us stumble into the playoffs against subpar teams and get embarrassed. YASNY
Every point made in this thread is a valid one. The schedule strength of our remaining opposition vs. that of Twins is almost nightmarish. Yet, the Sox do seem to play better when there is a certain electricity in the air. The road woes are also of a concern. This game today was one that really needed to win. It's going to a tough row to hoe for the Sox to win this thing. winninguglyin83
i don't think it's unrealistic to believe that Cleveland can win two of four at home against the Twinkies, especially since Radke and perhaps Santana won't pitch in this series. it's up to the Sox to hunker down and win 2 against Suppan, Wakefield and Burkett, which ain't exactly the same as hitting against Mulder, Zito and Hudson. We've all said this a million times -- but tonight's game is the biggest of the season.
Guest hotsoxchick1
from here on in every game is the biggest game of the season........
Harry Chappas
We should not be having this conversation. Last evening I was thinking back over the season and how we should be at least 10 games up. There was a discussion on ESPN this morning about how much better the Sox are than anyone in the Central. I get sick when I think of all of the games we have given away over the season.

sox-r-us
Sox have a very good chance to get one back up against the twinkies with CC Sabathia going for the Injuns against Kenny Rogers Danny Wright better pitch his best game of the year against that Bo Sox line up, and we better beat the crap out of Suppan....NO WASTING ANY AT BATS
YASNY
Again, I have to agree. We should be 10 up right now, at least.
