59th street
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) This article kind of sucked, as it went with AJ. I'd be curious who everyone else would pick. For me Jaime Navarro tops the list. http://www.rantsports.com/mlb/2015/07/25/t...medium=referral Ron Santo by a landslide. David Wells second. ptatc
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) I doubt it. Without a doubt. He is one of the most hated players in the league by teammates. There is a reason that he needs to travel from team to team. He is truly one of the most dislikable people you've ever met. In Baseball he is on par with Bonds and sheffield.
OmarComing25
I don't care if other players/fans hated him, having AJ as the choice is just stupid. It should be a player your own team/fans hate too. AJ is probably in my top 5 favorite White Sox players ever.
LDF
if there is a poll and Ty Cobbs is the standard of the most hated in the history. i still say royce clayton is right there. can you imagine every day in spring training, no one wants to sit with you. you have table all by yourself. now some players were not good teammates, but did that count as being hated?? perfect example michael barret from the northside. now, this hatred of AJ, i know with minny he was hated but wasn't he like in chi?? I don't like what he did to people and I know how most people view him.
Dizzy Sox
Navarro in a landslide--he combined a terrible attitude, horrific performance, and the opportunity cost of signing him over Clemens. Tough to beat all that, though Royce Clayton does deserve a (dis)honorable mention.
Jose Abreu
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 08:08 PM) Navarro is #1 ..............John Danks #2 John Danks has been an average pitcher for us for 9 years. The only reason he's disliked now, in year 9, is because of his contract.

GreenSox
Considering we gave up a draft choice, pay him more and signed him for more years, Melky was a far worse signing than Laroche. And yet, people act like Melky has done his job. He's been terrible.

chw42
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) John Danks has been an average pitcher for us for 9 years. The only reason he's disliked now, in year 9, is because of his contract. Danks has been average to below average this year. If it wasn't for his shoulder problems, he could have been one of the better Sox pitchers of the past decade. He was absolutely money in 2008 and had 4 seasons where he put up 3.7 WAR per season on average.

chw42
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 24, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) i am a danks fan and thank you for posting that. it was an injury that derailed him. I still think that deal we gave him was the right move at the time and I'm sure a lot of posters on this forum will agree with that. In hindsight, it sucks and maybe the Sox should have been a bit more observant of how poorly he pitched in the last month of 2011. Still, Danks got a fair market value contract for the pitcher he was at the time, which was a solid #2 or #3 left handed starter. Buehrle got less money, but he was also a lot older. If the injury didn't happen, the Danks deal would have worked out better than the Buehrle deal.

My point was that he's a longtime Sox pitcher who has been overall average due to those good seasons and his below average seasons now; and he is definitely not the most hated player in White Sox history. He's closer to most beloved player in Sox history than most hated.

He pitched the blackout game and was a huge reason why the Sox made the playoffs in 2008. He's not worth his contract anymore, but you can't hate the guy for underperforming because of a major injury. Either way, Danks is probably going to be a major league average pitcher this year by fWAR (he's around 1.5 WAR right now). If you would have told me that at the beginning of the season, I would have been pretty satisfied.

fathom
Danks had one of the best performances in franchise history in the tiebreak game. He shouldn't be close to anyone's most hated list.
