I know. No doubt family and friends were watching it live, or at the very least found out about it on TV. Nightmare day.

Yep, people watching their daughter, sister, etc being proud she's doing what she assumingly loves and boom, there she goes. It's hard to fathom being real and we're not directly involved even.

It's all over, folks. We HAVE to get guns off the streets, out of the hands of morons. Can you imagine, these two reporters had to hate getting up to go to work at 6:45 am. Next thing you know they are removed from the planet by some idiot. GUN CONTROL. It must take place in a more aggressive fashion. Our country is not safe with all the mental illnesses out there and medicated people!!

I wrote that in anger.

Now I want to say I'm so f***ing sad for everybody involved! This shooter kills the two media members?? Awful. And he doesn't shoot the person being interviewed? How awful. Prayers for everybody. I just found out about this and am sad and outraged! Damn. Horrifying. Senseless. The two reporters were going to fricking get married. The cameraman was getting out of the news business.

If there was no video of this event, is this even a story outside of the local broadcast area, or maybe Virginia? I mean, as someone else pointed out, 3 people were shot in Chicago just today. More will be shot tomorrow. We have no video, we just read about it, and no one really thinks twice about it.

Video is becoming more and more influential in how we take in these events. From Ray Rice to Steve Sarkisian (5 years ago that's not even a news story) and now this.

Well, when a guy uses "social media" to basically publicize his murder of two people and he shoots and kills two TV people while they are on live TV and it's broadcast live, that is horrifying news that will be shown nationwide.

Unfortunately these social media platforms will lead to more of this. It's just very sad.

But of course you are right about video being more and more influential. People can tape their own vile unlawful disgusting actions such as today's.

Can you imagine today's horror? Two people working at a TV station who both are dating/in love with two other people at the station are murdered while at work today. Sad and awful.

Ban social media then.

It was being reported on CNN before any videos were posted or released this morning.

I've accidently came upon screenshots of his POV video and it is enough to give me nightmares.

Don't let that piece of scum give you nightmares. It would be his triumph. I just heard the piece of s*** killed himself. Bastard coward to go to a shoot with a gun and kill people at 6:45 a.m. then kill himself. Asshole.

Yeah that video gave me chills down my spine. It's crazy how we all probably watch violence of TV and don't even bat an eyelash.

This is scary because this is apart of life in this country.

Very true. I just watched the gunman's own video. He had to be holding his phone at the same time as he held the weapon. Our world is in deep trouble. We are a killing society and every minute you leave your house you are in some kind of danger. It's only going to get worse.

If the gunman really wanted to make a point he could have jumped out with the gun to these people who he perceived as his work enemies and said "Right now I could kill you if I wanted to. This gun is loaded." And then shoot it into the ground, leave and let his enemies live their lives in peace! He could post that on social media and be a hero in his own mind. Instead he is so f***ed up he has to actually kill them then end his own life. Scum of the earth.

Unbelievable when he had the gun out pointing it at her as they talked and he stepped back for a moment like he was positioning better or having second thoughts. Its crazy how none of them noticed him pointing the gun only feet away. Horrifying.

Think of all the wacked out assholes who will use this as a copycat. Always be aware of your surroundings, people and prepare yourself mentally to act fast and get involved if you are in a public place and somebody goes for a gun. Be ready to act like those guys on the train did.

Yeah so this guy was just crazy:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/shooting-alleged-...ory?id=33336339

Blamed his actions on the Charleston shooting, but then said he approved of other mass shootings like Virginia Tech and Columbine. He also claims that Jehovah told him to do it.

Also of note, he's black and gay. Alpha, odds he was a registered GOP member?

Involving the media itself, it would have been a big deal.

Biggest argument to not remove guns from the streets is then we the people have zero protection from a government / military controlling us. All that said, all the guns in the world wouldn't protect us from our own military.

I love that argument.

If the US military ever decided to go crazy and control people, it'd be game over in about 10 seconds.

It's okay that this story has gotten so much attention because of the fact it was caught on film. That's just how people work. You can't help but empathize when you actually see it rather than hear it. There are lots of terrible murders, but you usually have them conveyed as mere facts that have gotten all too familiar.

This one got me especially because I once spent some time with a TV news station and everything about the scene felt familiar. I didn't watch the killer's own video, but I saw a screen grab of what I believe is probably the first frame of the video. Just the photog, reporter, and person being interviewed. I've seen that 100 times. It's insane. There's a screen grab of the killer from the news channel's footage when the camera hit the ground that is particularly terrifying.
