Balta1701
QUOTE (spiderman @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) I don't know the market for Ramirez so if the White Sox are convinced he won't be able to match his contract for 2016 on the open market, then, obviously, you don't pick up the option. The White Sox have to be careful here though; Ramirez hasn't had a good year, but what is the alternative for next season? Is Tim Anderson ready? What are the other alternatives? They already have massive offensive holes at 3B, SS (including Ramirez who hasn't played well) 2B, RF, DH and C. I think they need to consider bringing him back for next season, especially if they don't have an in-house alternative. To the bolded I emphatically say no. I personally want to see Saladino there for 2016, but that's because my perspective on the franchise is that we have a roster that is far from competitive in this league & I want to act like it and grow for the future. I'll be honest, I don't think we're that far away from being serious contenders. Our pitching staff is legit and once Fulmer or Montas replaces Danks it could be special. The offense is an obvious issue, but can be fixed if addressed properly. IMO, that means signing one of the star OFs in free agency, trading for a long-term solution at 3B, & adding a young catcher that can contribute by 2017. Accomplish all three of those goals, and we can be fringe contenders next year and serious contenders the following. The pitching staff really has a chance to be that good in the very near future. Funny, just last night I was thinking about when I expect the Sox to be good again. Couldn't decided on 2017 or 2018... I think it'll be contenders in 2017 and badass mofos in 2018. Kinda sad. chitownsportsfan
Who is the replacement? Literally anyone. Ramirez has been below the definition of replacement level this year by a good amount. Just throw any AAAA guy in there if you want to go cheap. If they think they are gonna contend then find someone that could possibly give you 2 WAR but replacing his production? Shouldn't be a problem. I will say it would be the most Sox thing ever to rush Anderson based on a hot spring. God I hope that doesn't happen. Would really like to see him get another year to refine everything without the pressure of the big club. They need to be patient with him. spiderman
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) We've gotten enough wild cards for 1 month guys that eventually IIRC the guy we got for Beckham last year at least wound up in the top 30 list. Sox got something decent for Beckham?

BlackSox13
Would like to add that I'm in agreement with those that say Anderson should be in AAA to start next season. TA should not even be an option for the Sox coming out of ST. If the Sox need to keep Alexei around for one more year or plug Saladino in at SS then so be it but Anderson, imo, is not an option coming out of ST next year. Let the kid develop! Also, not a fan of moving Sanchez to SS. Imo, the kid has potential of playing GG caliper defense at 2B and his bat fits 2B as well so by no means should he be moved from that position. As for Micah. Seeing as how the Sox have a lack of power from the current DH, Micah's lack of defense and leg issues I would have no problem with him as DH. I honestly believe Micah would be more productive than LaRoche. That's really not a stretch either. Otherwise, maybe try to trade Micah as part of a package for a 3B, as others have already stated. BlackSox13
QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) Hmm, no strikeouts I agree his K total is a bit low but the kid is only 21 and was traded to the Sox for Beckham. Many Sox fans, including myself, were ready to DFA Beckham last year so I'll take Almonte over nothing any time.
