Lip Man 1
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather the Sox not break laws and rules. The Wilder fiasco was enough for me. I can't believe anyone would seriously endorse that sort of thing. South: I suspect things like this have been going on for decades, all under the table. I respect your viewpoint but if that's what it takes to win, then so be it. This isn't a morality play, it's a business...and for the last decade basically business has been very poor. Wish the Sox were smart enough to do something like that. Mark You mean to circumvent the rules, written and unwritten? Hoyer has long been theo the boy genius' b****. greg775
Regarding futility of Robin ... until there's an obvious choice to replace him maybe the Sox should keep him another year. I mean does anybody really want a replacement of Dave Martinez, Alomar, Buddy Bell? These are the 3 we'd probably get as our leading candidates. I'd take Gardy right now but the Sox really don't have any good options out there. If Robin gets canned I'd be OK with a one-year deal for Ripken or Thome or somebody like that waiting until somebody good gets fired and emerges. I know you guys get mad at me for suggesting oldies, but what about Leyland for a one-year deal or LaRussa for one year or even Lasorda one year? You left out Jim Thome, who I think will get the job whenever they do move on from Robin unless Robin is here so long that Konerko wants it. He promised not to ever put the uniform on again as Mgr. Of course, you were kidding anyway, right?

Dick Allen
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) I would take Dave Martinez in a heartbeat. They should have taken him the last time around. He stands next to Joe Maddon. That should make him a clone. Why do so many people think this way? Look at your places of employment and look at the better employees and their assistants. Are there assistants just like them? Hell no. Dave Martinez has interview countless times for a managerial job, including the TB Rays where, if he was Maddon's clone, would have been the perfect place for him to start his managerial career. He never gets the job. Why? Anyone who thinks Robin lacks emotion would quickly realize he is the Tazmanian Devil compared to Dave Martinez, who is basically Harold Baines personality wise. That's probably why he hasn't been hired. But good managers higher good people below them. Ventura's issues have nothing to do with his stoicism (which I think is a plus). As for Thome and Konerko...they'd probably be better than Ventura (not a high bar to achieve that) but they are similarly inexperienced. No self respecting GM would hire Robin Ventura over Dave Martinez.
