southsider2k5
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) Do you really think the Sox could offer the most money? I'm not saying the Sox are cheap but with the current roster the payroll is around 114/115M. A player like Cespedes would put them close to 140M without addressing the infield needs. Unless some Sox players improved upon their 2015 numbers, Cespedes only makes the Sox a .500 team. Sox need much more than one hitter. The Sox won't offer the most money, and they won't be the best situation he can go to.
Bob Sacamano
Mlbtr had a breakdown of every team and the biggest contract they have given out in their history. Biggest Sox contract? 6/68 to Jose Abreu. They aren't going to sign Heyward, Upton, or Cespedes guys.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:48 AM) If $100 mil + is spent on someone it's Heyward for me. Except it will be much closer to $200 than $100 million.

Was just saying he's the one guy I'd spend it on. I'm just not a big fan of Upton, but if we sign him so be it.

Buehrle>Wood
I'm all aboard the Upton train. A few months back and I think the though was that he would definitely get more than Cespedes. Cespedes got thrown into the spotlight and the rest is history. Targeting Upton day 1 while the rest fight over Heyward and Cespedes would be my play. Dick Allen
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) Jung Ho Kang was damn good last year. Yes, but this guy's numbers weren't really close to Kang's in Korea. I'm sure a team will take a chance especially considering how well Kang did, but to expect anything near Kang's production is probably really stretching it. BlackSox13
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 11:47 PM) The Sox have too many holes in the infield to wrap up that kind of money on one outfielder. Besides, unless the Sox move a big contract or increase payroll, the money simply is not there. Cespedes is part of a WS team, why the hell would he sign with a 76 win team? Surely a playoff team or a team in much better shape to contend next year can offer up as much as the Sox and probably more. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) The Sox won't offer the most money, and they won't be the best situation he can go to. Already in agreement with you. If it was 2010 or 2012 Rios I wouldn't mind. Even 2013 Rios was decent. It was really just 41 games in 2009 and that horrific 2011 that was bad. bmags
wouldn't mind is not really the emotion I want behind a big $100 mill signing. Justin Upton seems like a nice 3rd or 4th best position player. Not someone I want as my highest paid #2.

Flash Tizzle
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) I'd rather sign a few second tier FAs than give up Sanchez, Micah, Trey and Adams. I'd rather lose with some dignity and more money available for next offseason than go through another offseason of singing second tier FAs.....only to lose a little less. Maybe with Asdrubal Cabrera and Freese we'll have 81 wins. While many may claim that's successful it doesn't prove to me we're in any better position to compete come 2017 or beyond. We need impact bats, players with the ability to get on base and threaten to hit 30+ HRs. If it means unload Quintana, Sale, or any of the names above so be it. Tired of signing these replacement level bums. And yes, I'd rather lose and sign no one, collect a Top Ten draft pic, then come 2017 use available money to sign a legitimate FA.... than look at second and third tier options. We'll also have a better idea of the future of Anderson, Fulmer, Montas
