Bob Sacamano
With Martinez not signing yet, does anyone think that he may have a hand-shaken agreement with a team to wait until next summer to sign so a team can sign him and a bunch of others without the bigger market teams able to make signings? Obviously he'd have to be promised a lot to put off signing that long but I also feel like he should have signed by now so who knows. That is 10 more months to go unpaid and not play professional baseball.
Boopa1219
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) I can't see him waiting until next summer. That is 10 more months to go unpaid and not play professional baseball. I tihnk he will because he will get more money if he waits because more teams will be willing to go over and some of usual suspects on the international market are not able to sign him. harfman77
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Completely disagree, the 2016 INTL class is supposed to be the best it's been in years and Sox would not be willing to pay the overage fee on those contracts for Cuban as opposed to 16 kids in the Dominicans because of how expensive they are compared to theit LA counterparts They say every year is the best its been in years and if they are right this time it wont matter as many of those kids are already lined up on deals with teams for next July 2nd and the Sox are not going to come out with much more than they did this year. The Cubans are more expensive yes, but also have a higher probablity of being legitimate pieces because they are further along and some cases much further along in their development than the 16 year old kids signed out of LA. CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 05:52 AM) Aren't there a lot of teams that spent over the cap this year and last year to the point where there aren't many teams that can sign International youngsters for next period? If so, Sox should spend a LOT then. Although I wouldn't complain if they went out and got this kid and EJM now It will be very interesting to see when the league decides he is eligible. If they don't make him eligible early 8 big spenders can't sign him. Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and Royals who exceeded their limits this year and Angels, D-backs, Rays, Red Sox and Yankees who got the max penalty of 2 years of not signing anyone for over $300,00 for 2 years. If they make him eligible soon as they can the Cubs Dodgers Giants and Royals will all still be eligible. Sox really have no reason not to go all out next summer. Hopefully there are some 19/20 year old Moncada types somewhere.
oldsox
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) Get him now, there are plenty of other young Cuban guys out there to make it worth your while to go over the limit this year and all alot closer to the majors then the guys the Sox would be signing on the next two July signing periods. Now is the perfect time to bust the limit with the abundance of players available, the depth of position players in the Sox system, and the impending international draft. Slight exaggeration? CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Slight exaggeration? By that he means sign Cubans because we lack talent at positional player talent in the minors.
