Jerksticks
Eaton- 14 Avi- 13 I still can't believe that Eaton's probably gonna pop 15 homers! I still can't believe Avi dissapointed pretty much every fan this year. Woulda been a fun season if Garcia had taken a big step forward. ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) Avi needs to go I wouldn't say he "needs to go", but I think this was finally his chance to show us he was going to be a stud, and he flopped. I'd be more than happy to upgrade in RF.
Lemon_44
Yep, Garcia's played 1 complete major league season and didn't hit .300 with 30 HR at the age of 24. Get rid of him, he's a bum.
daggins
He's had ~1100 MLB plate appearances. He hasn't shown any growth in power or plate discipline. He's awful defensively. I'm not saying the Sox need to cut bait, but he can't be considered a starter in 2016 if there are pretenses of contention.
EvilJester99
Avi has struggled.. but to me he isn't the biggest issue on this team yet most are so down on him as if he is the cause of the Sox sucking so hard.
daggins
Avi would do well to consider what JD Martinez did to overhaul his swing. Seems like in his Astros days, he had similar issues to Garcia. Free swinger, can't leverage considerable raw power. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/j-d-martine...ny-adjustments/

Get rid of him, he's a bum. The funny thing is that people would love him if he put up those offensive numbers at second or third base instead of right field. I'd try and convert him to an infielder honestly. His defense couldn't be any worse than it is now. Edited September 30, 2015 by Mike F. I'm not saying the Sox need to cut bait, but he can't be considered a starter in 2016 if there are pretenses of contention. I completely agree with this. You can't just stick him in RF next season and plan contending. My biggest issue with him is the defense. If he was a good defender, I'd be willing to live with the offensive struggles for a bit longer.
Dunt
Trayce is better in literally every aspect of the game. He's proven that RF is his next season.
ChiSoxFanMike
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) Yes, he would cost the team far more runs defensively in the infield than he has in RF. I can't see him being any worse at third than in right field, but's just me. Chances are that he'll be a horrible defender no matter where you put him. I don't see him improving much, either. He is better suited to be a DH, but he'll never get to that spot if he can't learn how to hit better.
Jerksticks
QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) Trayce is better in literally every aspect of the game. He's proven that RF is his next season. This is basically it. Defense is a million times better and he has an actual approach at the plate. Not sure Avi knows what to do with any pitcher throwing over 92 mph

I'd try and convert him to an infielder honestly. His defense couldn't be any worse than it is now. The average MLB 2B has an OPS of .708. The average MLB 3B has an OPS of .754. Avi has put up an OPS of below .600 in three of the last four months. His offense would be pretty bad even at second base.

Get rid of him, he's a bum. Yep, that's what people are saying. That's the bar he had to clear. Anybody who doesn't do that is a bum, that's exactly right. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 07:07 AM) Avi has struggled.. but to me he isn't the biggest issue on this team yet most are so down on him as if he is the cause of the Sox sucking so hard. He is one of the biggest issues on this team. For the Sox to contend he had to break out. Instead he got palpably worse. So much else went wrong that you can't pin all the blame on him, but he might have gone the wrongest. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 08:14 AM) I can't see him being any worse at third than in right field, but's just me. Oh I can see it. He's never played the infield, why do people wanna do this? I'm not saying the Sox need to cut bait, but he can't be considered a starter in 2016 if there are pretenses of contention. I'm at the point where I don't even think you can start him in any scenario. All this "he's only played one full season, he's young" stuff would be more convincing if he was actually showing any progress, but just like you said, he isn't. He's even more of a hacker now than ever. I liked this movie better when it was called Dayan Viciedo. Cut bait and give the job to somebody else next year. Do not flush another 600 plate appearances on him. Trayce would be a better option, he's YOUNG! just like Avi but he's already shown more promise in two months' time. He has a better walk rate than any single month of Avi's career, except the one that lasted 8 games before he fell down and hurt himself. he gone.
He has the talent, he has the work ethic (the man is built like a horse), he has the arm, he has decent speed. He doesn't have the mental aspect of the game down. Do I think in the right hands he can turn into a JD Martinez? I wouldn't be at all surprised. I look at it this way. If we are not contending next year, and we are cleaning house, maybe a managerial change can help. His whole time in the majors w/ the Sox has been with this staff. He showed signs of being a star in Detroit. Who knows? That being said he's Viciedo. So in recap. If we are going to suck next year, give him a shot with (hopefully) a new coaching staff If we are going to suck with Robin at the helm? 4OF/DH If we are somehow trying to contend? Off the team. TaylorStSox
We talked about his swing a fair amount when we first saw him. It's so flawed. It's flat and he can't get enough lift on the ball. He's basically a naturally fat guy who's an exceptional athlete. He's fundamentally flawed in just about every aspect of the game. I'd be shocked if he ever developed.
Southwest Sider
If I'm the Sox, I make it clear to Avi that he is in open competition with Trayce for an OF spot next spring. Nothing is guaranteed. He needs to come to ST with a whole new idea on hitting, and apply it. He has a lot of work to do this offseason. It also wouldn't hurt if he put in a lot of work on his defense, too. At least improve that to some degree, as well. But as ardent a supporter as I have been for Avi, I fear he has hit his ceiling. It's not the ceiling we thought he could hit, and he is still very young.. but if he has a lousy spring I don't see how you can bring him to Chicago if you are looking to contend, unless Trayce has a terrible Spring or they bring in some new guys. I'm displeased Avi hasn't amounted to more, but overall I'm happy we were able to get a chance at a stud and a seemingly important future bullpen piece for Jake Peavy. Still a good deal for us, just hasn't worked out as we had all hoped.
Knackattack
Avi isn't worth the 2mil he will make in arb. I really think he should be non tendered and would be astounded if some one offered him a major league contract.
Hatchetman
I wonder if anyone has every sat him down and said essentially, "Avi, you suck at baseball. I mean you REALLY suck at baseball. Do you understand that? You need to make massive improvements if you have aspirations to continue being a major league baseball player."
