southsider2k5
If you didn't see it, you really should. I am trying to remember a better defensive play this year, and I cannot. The gif doesn't do it justice as he covered some major ground just to get into position for the full extension dive. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/649227806489055232 http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/video/v50913...Id=clubMEGAMENU

That'd be great, but I'd settle for him being an average MLB OF offensively to go along with his much better than average defensive abilities. caulfield12
As long as he outhits Brian Anderson, might as well give him Avi's job. Heck, Avi can't even outhit Viciedo.

lasttriptotulsa
Based on the scenarios, I don't think it compares to Avi's on July 4.

Bob Sacamano
Correct me if I'm wrong (don't know where to really look for this) but in the years Heyward struggled with the bat, wasn't he always positive WAR-wise due to his great defense? (I also know that WAR isn't the end all be all)

Dunt
My big question going forward is do the Sox keep Trayce in RF or move him to CF and have Eaton move to RF?
bmags
Awesome catch. Trayce was such a bright spot this year. Hope he's not a bright spot like Josh Fields 22 hrs were a bright spot in 07.
lasttriptotulsa
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) Correct me if I'm wrong (don't know where to really look for this) but in the years Heyward struggled with the bat, wasn't he always positive WAR-wise due to his great defense? (I also know that WAR isn't the end all be all) Heyward had just one year where he was a below Major League average hitter with a 96 wRC+ in 2011. His fWAR that year was just 1.9 (basically league average). I think that may be about where Trayce Thompson could be at. Every other year Heyward's wRC+ has been at least 110. I don't think Trayce Thompson has a reasonable shot at that at all. I think Trayce's peak is a average to slightly above average Major Leaguer. Remember he put up low .700 OPSs in AAA. Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) My big question going forward is do the Sox keep Trayce in RF or move him to CF and have Eaton move to RF? I was gonna say Melky in RF and Eaton in LF. Was surprised Melky has only played 78 games in RF. Feel like he has the arm for it. Eaton surprisingly does too. My only problem with moving Eaton is that you better be sure Trayce can stick. I feel like once you move from CF to a corner on a permanent basis, few end up moving back successfully. Rowand obviously was capable of the spectacular catch but had nowhere near the defensive tools of Trayce. That catch was incredible. Sox have been such an unathletic team over the years and as the league has shifted to being pitching-centric, athleticism has become so much more critical (defense and baserunning). Rowand44
I've never been Trayce's biggest fan but we're to the point where he has to be in consideration for a starting outfield spot next year, right?
Harry Chappas
The White Sox suck at hitting and defense. Sanchez and Thompson should make the team next year simply by hitting .230. Thompson should have an OBP of .300 which on this team makes him a top hitter.
