Steve Stone just told us Trayce Thompson should play centerfield at the start of next season.

Interesting, especially given how much DJ and Farmer seem to hate Eaton's defense this year. I know I've said it a few times, but it wouldn't shock me at all if Eaton is dealt this offseason.

That would shock me a lot.

Jeff Samardzija praised Trayce Thompson's defense, said he should play every day even if "he hits .050."

Presume this is a shot at some of our other outfielders too. Should be...Melky and Avi are horrendous out there.

Absolutely no chance. You don't trade one of your few good position players. Stick him in left where he'd be above average. That said, he's been up and down defensively so you know he has ability to be above average in center. Either way, given the crap we have in the outfield, I'm not going to trade the one serviceable one we have in Eaton.

Plays like that save games. He has to replace Melky next year in left. Just get rid of Melkster or Garcia.

Good luck with that.

Who would want an aging, defensively slightly below average corner outfielder who can't hit for power and has ped's questions attached to his career? Maybe KC, to replace Gordon...assuming that Zobrist departs.

That said, you don't want to go into your last bench chance to compete for a World Series depending on the likes of Rios and Cabrera as your two corners, especially with the defensive downgrade that would bring into play vis a vis Gordon.

My guess is that the White Sox bring all four back next year (Eaton, Cabrera, Garcia, Thompson) and rotate them regularly based on who is hot and match ups, much like they have for the last couple of months. Thompson will play a lot early, but won't start. Eventually he will take a job from someone. It might even be that LaRoche is pushed out the door, and the DH becomes a part of that rotation so that Thompson play every day.

What I don't see is the Sox dumping one of their current OFs (Cabrera, Eaton, Garcia).

Totally agree.

I think Hahn is going to want to scale back the big moving and shaking that he did last off season and be a little on the conservative side this off season.

I don't think there's a catcher available for us to spend lots of money on. It's such a weak position.

I do think we trade for a 3B, though.

edit- I know there's Wieters, but he's overrated and injury-prone

I can squint and see a scenario where Wieters takes a one year deal to try to go back out in 2016 looking for a home run on the free agent market. That is a pretty typical Boras tactic.

Definitely agree with you there. I think there will be some rotation and then when LaRoche is gone, Cabrera will slide into the DH role and the OF will be Eaton/Trayce/?.

The big move this year will involved a 3B or C this year.

I think the big move is for a third basemen whether it be a trade or in FA for a guy like Zobrist. I really see them trading for a catcher like Gary Sanchez or Austin Barnes and keeping Flowers as the backup.

i am for trading mostly anyone, if the sox can get at least equal value or more.

but in case of eaton, who has establish themselves that they can bat #1, lead off. that is really important for the batting order.

but let me clarify proved themselves with mlb experience who can bat lead.
