I guess the bigger question is why would you buy them?

For the same reason I buy preseason tickets, it's a privilege of being a season ticket holder.

Although to be fair, while they require a CC number for the playoff tickets, they don't actually charge the card until the game is official. But I do have the tickets in my drawer, just in case.

The problem with White Sox playoff tickets for season ticketholders is if you buy them, you can't get refunded on them without losing your season ticket priority. Since WS games are or were 250-275 you have to buy for 4 games, depending on the package you have, you might have a credit in your account for a while.

That's pretty much a given.

You could go back all the way to 1901 and I would still think that 2013 was one of the worst years for the White Sox franchise ever. They were absolutely terrible from start to finish.

I guess Rodon is a great reward for having to endure that trainwreck of a year though.

i had to relive that yr of the black sox scandal and esp that playoff series, i would pick that yr.

10 years since the last World Championship.

Oh, the suffering. Fans should never be exposed to this.

ahhh the subtle snark.... i love it.

all those teams in the early '90s who were kinda good, probably contend for wild card, if it was around then.

those teams in the early '00s who were also kinda good, might have had a chance to back in to the 2nd wild card spot.

So there's that.

Absolutely. They played a balanced league schedule then too.

1991

1993

1994

The Sox are making the playoffs with the current format.

Fewer teams make the playoffs in MLB than the other sports. The Sox have sucked but as far as comparing across other sports... *shrug*

In the NFL and NBA, being really bad for two years can pay off if the timing is right.

very interesting comparison. i really never thought of that in that way.

what i saw is, if they had the wild card, the success of those teams would have had a whole different outcome esp in the fan base and attendance.

all that was needed was a catalyst to start the ball rolling for a better success story.

what could have been ......

If they had expanded playoffs in the 50's and 60's the Sox are in 1955, 1957, 1959, 1963, 1964 and 1965.

But as per the Sox "luck" they didn't. Despite averaging 94 wins in that three years stretch in the 60's they went nowhere.

People today don't realize how damn good those clubs were then.

So, do we need two or three more train wreck years in a row?

OMG - amen, bro! Finally, someone's got it right. For goodness sakes, White Sox fans - don't be greedy!! You got a World Series championship a decade ago - that should last you awhile! I know it's been the only one the fan base has enjoyed in nearly 100 years, but hey, who's counting, right! And no need to be insisting on trying to be competitive enough to maybe, just maybe, get to the WS again. That's just you playing the "suffering" card again, White Sox fan. Don't try it - we are so onto you!

And those hard-to-come-by playoff appearances - what are you complaining about that for? We were just there in '08, for goodness sakes! Seems just like yesterday. Oh, I know - only 4 of the 29 other teams in baseball have suffered longer playoff droughts than our Sox, but please, stop. You're complaining. You're a whiner. There's nothing wrong with this situation, you hear? Everything you are exposed to is really a-ok. Really, it is.

I mean really the friggin' nerve of some people. Actually COMPLAINING about five , count em' FIVE World Series appearances in 115 years! Can you believe them!!!!!!!!!!! (LOL)

I mean they won three of them right? All is well in the world!!!

Look at the bright side, they are still ahead of the Marlins in World Series titles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:bang

If only those dead beat, lazy fans would come out and pack the park, regardless of 30 degree sleet in April, despite the fact kids are in school to June, despite the fact the franchise is at its lowest point since the late 60's / mid 70's in terms of dung on the field...IF ONLY THOSE FANS WOULD COME OUT, we could take all that money and maybe, maybe...just maybe...make the postseason in consecutive seasons.

To funny!

The Cubs are calling for you. Put your money where your mouth is and give up your fandom. Jerry Reinsdorf is an evil man.

Yeah go figure. From 1990 to 2006 the Sox never finished lower than 3rd (and that only happened 3 times). Yet the 3 times they made it to the playoffs it was because they won the division. Not a single wild card winner.

Now that they've expanded it to two WC teams, they are finishing 4th and 5th.

99% of the history of this team can be summed up as good, but not quite good enough.

i took his post as being snarky.... nothing more. anyway, aren't fans has the right to criticize the FO???

anyway, when it comes to some really questionable moves or lack of, and then have the owner berate the fans for not showing up.... they deserve this criticism.

just b/c of 1 ws championship, does that excuse the org from criticizing them??? for life???

excellent post.

but i was as loyal to the sox as anyone back then. i defended the owners, even thou i kinda felt like others.

back then in the 90's, i heard of, if the sox had invested in another pitcher, another hitter instead of getting and trying to use retreads ..... it would be better. that was said during the same season as they were being voiced.

problem is, same complaint many yrs later.

the owners legacy..... miss opportunity in many things, but they made money, lots of money.

He posted earlier this year how he was ready to give up being a White Sox fan, and has about 1000 posts since ripping JR. If it is so bad, and he is willing to give it up, do all of us, including himself a favor, and give it up. Jump on a bandwagon and be happy.

What I don't understand about White Sox fans is why it is now a requirement to make the playoffs xx many times in xx many years, and their has to be back to back appearances...If that was always the requirement, how the hell did anyone ever become a White Sox fan? So people just like to complain. In fact, I think we should start a gofundme type of thing for the 4 biggest whiners on this website. Give them their dream vacation. A week in Detroit, in a zero star hotel, with meals at the worst restaurant included. One week of solid complaining. That would be a dream vacation for several here.

ref - gofundme i would really hate that.... i have a fear i would be #1 .... but i have reasons.... :D

ref - bold #1. you got a point on that. i like to think success has been elevated ... in other words the goal line has been moved. in the 90's and before, the fans were happy for a team that was competitive, a chance to win the division. that was the joy , at least for me who was a season ticket holder for some 10+ yrs. the excitement the craziness at the park, the crowd of 30,000 and driving being horrible. but man, getting that hot dog behind 3b concession .... and having the sox win. that was my joy.

but now, it could have still be like that. there was a jump in season tickets, and a season of promise. regardless of the ability of the owners not to do it right. in 05, the sox stumbled into the WS and i am, just like anyone else ecstatic, but it does not give the owners a free pass.

as i said in the hawks section after the SC win. get the GM to start working, there is no down time. i want another SC.... selfish i am. i want more.

with my health problems.... i am like JR... i want another sox, hawks and bulls championship in that order.

and heaven help me, if that lousy crap of a team on the northside gets there. i would be royally pissed on the owners this off season. mark my words.

It's not difficult to understand at all. Those requirements aren't for us. The ones who post on message boards like this are the die-hards. We are the ones that have been fans since we were kids. Had our fandom passed down from our parents and grandparents. We are the ones that still watch the team even when they only win 60 or 70 games.

The problem is when it's just the die-hards going to the games, the attendance is only going to be 10 or 15 thousand a game. Those requirements are for the casual fans. The ones that only pay attention when the team is good.
