That is killer work on the deck!

Thanks! It turned out better than I even thought it would.

How hard is it to install a toilet? I dont feel like paying someone.

Never done it personally, but I've seen it done twice and it looked pretty straightforward. I'm pretty confident you could watch a couple YouTube videos and get it done.

Just make sure to check for water every day after flushes for a few weeks. Worst thing that usually happens is it sitting uneven on the rubber seal and water leaking out. That's like, 85% of the work.

Yeah well, typical old house, flange is totally rusted out and whoever put the last toilet in just put a s***load of wax and some weird funnel thing down there instead of bolting it correctly. They also sealed it to the floor which was pretty much the only thing holding it in place.

Plumber coming over now.

Took about two months, but we're finally *almost* finished with the master bedroom remodel that started with "well, let's replace the carpet" and turned into doing everything short of ripping out the drywall. Nice to actually be able to set up our bedroom for the first time in our new house. Now on to the hallway (same flooring project plus replacing four doors) and then the stairs (replacing handrails, sanding and painting all the trim, but thankfully actually paying someone to install the flooring on that).

One of these days this summer we'll actually get around to cleaning up the overgrown forest in our backyard.

I just added 28 square feet to my family room by removing two closets. Up next is finishing the area, repainting and recarpeting the whole room and then installing a media center in the area that used to house the closets (pictured). I was able to knock out the closets in a day which was surprising, but I have a feeling the rest of the project will be more time consuming.

Ok home electricians, here's a question:

I installed some Ikea under cabinet lights this weekend. The Omlopp LED spotlight kit, 4 lights that plug into a transformer that is plugged into a wall. When I flip the switch, there's a good half second to full second delay before the lights come on. Any ideas why? The old light that was connected to the switch (hard wired) did not have this issue. I took that down and added an outlet and then plugged the transformer into that. No power issues, doesn't matter how many lights are plugged into the transformer. There's still the delay. I'm thinking maybe the transformer is bad? Or maybe the switch somehow went bad coincidentally?

That is considered normal with LEDs. It is just the amount of time it takes for the energy to build up within the diode.

Yeah I was gonna say, my LED bulbs have a small delay, but the cost serving is worth is.

We are weighing options to either purchase a home from a new home builder in a neighborhood on the west side of las vegas (outstanding location, school districts, etc) or undergo a massive renovation/addition project to our own home (good location, bad school districts, would require private or charter schools). We met with an architect on Thursday evening who was very interested in making our existing property work for our needs.

Some of those needs include accommodating parents and potentially my wife's brother at some point.

Very tough decision.

Well that's lame. I didn't know that. If a guest is over they're going to think there's something wrong with the light.

Only if they aren't cool enough to have LEDs. Just say with Hipster sarcasm, I guess you are still using Edison's invention from 100 years ago . . .
