Whisox05
White Sox have declined option on SS Alexei Ramirez. Just announced by the team. They instead exercise $1 million buyout. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/661967111401639936

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Who is going to play shortstop now? Could Alexei still return on a cheaper contract?
ChiSox_Sonix
This is actually pretty surprising. Not that $10M is a good price for him at this point in his career, but that we don't really have any other viable alternative to replace him. Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Who is going to play shortstop now? Could Alexei still return on a cheaper contract? Yes. I bet any money he is the shortstop next season. Anything less than 1 year 9 mill makes this worth it since we would save money. I'm going to guess 1/6 (7 mill including the buyout). Edited November 4, 2015 by soxfan2014
shysocks
Surprising decision but I'm pleased.
Bigsoxhurt35
I'll bite. I like this move. He could still return.
BlackSox13
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) He'll be back. One or two year deal. Yep. Wouldn't be surprised if its a 1 year guaranteed with a second year option of some sort. Alexei buys the Sox time for Anderson.
flavum
I hope he's gone, but it really comes down to whether they have any better options. If the answer is no, he'll probably be back at a reduced price.

cabiness42
Very surprised. I don't see him re-signing. He'll get at least a 2/$15M from somebody out there.

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) Yes. I bet any money he is the shortstop next season. Anything less than 1 year 9 mill makes this worth it since we would save money. I'm going to guess 1/6 (7 mill including the buyout). Anything less than $10 million for Alexei is a good deal for the Sox IMO. He gets a lot of crap from people on here, but he's still one of the better overall shortstops in the American League. Dick Allen
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) I hope he's gone, but it really comes down to whether they have any better options. If the answer is no, he'll probably be back at a reduced price. At a low guarantee, it's hard to think of a better option. I wonder which team would offer him anything close to the price of his option.
Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Anything less than $10 million for Alexei is a good deal for the Sox IMO. He gets a lot of crap from people on here, but he's still one of the better overall shortstops in the American League. Plus there really is no read yin-house option if we are trying to compete. With a rebuild approach, I really wouldn't mind Saladino there but they won't toss him out there with a young 3B and young 2B.
Panerista
Alexei isn't worth $10 million. Sound business move. Thanks for a great career, though!

BlackSox13
I cracked up at the fan that said to bring up that kid Tim Anderson. Sure dude, call up a position player that has yet to play for AAA.
