Chris Sale on the open market in 4 years will easily top that deal. Unfortunately no way in hell it comes from us.

Agreed. I would've loved to see him be a White Sox lifer, but that certainly won't happen now.

The inflated contracts that these pitching free agents are getting is unreal and the Sox won't pony up the dough it'll take to keep him from going elsewhere.

It'll be a very sad day when Chris Sale is in a uniform other than a White Sox one.

He was coming off one season in the rotation and we had him under control for a while anyway. It's a completely different situation than being a free agent.

Unless the Sox start winning consistently and he loves it here, I think there's less than a 1% chance that he signs another super team friendly deal.

But like you said, who really knows until it happens?

David Price 30 mill a year for seven years? Sox better adopt a new bargain basement strategy like the Royals did. Unless we're being lied to ... Sox can't afford that kind of jack, the new going price (no pun intended) for free agents.

Raise those hot dog prices now, Red Sox. 20 bucks a hot dog sounds about right; 30 bucks for a beer should do it. Maybe a 17 dollar sale on nachos and 200 dollars to park. Might as well raise parking to a couple hundred per game.

here is the thing, the sox start to put a winning team with a winning results, fans will come back, and then the tv deal will be up for renewal.... that is where the money will come from....

oops, i forgot, the sox own the tv station.

Cub talking heads have been in full force the last couple of days in the Chicago media

Basically said the contracts were looking to be too rich and the second tier guys behind Lester and Arrieta are what they need, not top of the line guys.

I still think the debt and infrastructure costs are what is getting them

The fact the Cardinals were going that high makes me think they are spending somewhere big this offseason

make no bones on that, stl was in the hunt according to the stl news yesterday. but 30 mil???? maybe it is too rich for them and they just signed a new tv deal i think.

Trumbo to Baltimore for Clevenger

Looks like another player is going to Baltimore too. Wow. Seems like a lot to give up for a career minor league catcher. Don't understand the rush to get rid of him. Tender him a contract and work on dealing him between now and Spring Training.

The mariners didn't want to pay him period and basically just got rid of him.

I would've liked Aoki on the Sox, but there wouldn't have been any room for him unless Avi was traded or Melky moved to the DH spot.

even then, there is little power in the bat. the sox at this stage should be looking at a player who is above avg on defense and has a nice bat. someone who is a starter instead a 4 or 5th of'er

I think it came down to a number of things.

1- Trumbo is a 1B/DH ( Seattle had too many)

2- Trumbo had just one year left

3- Seattle wants a better defensive outfield

4- trading Trumbo's projected 9M salary opened up money for Aoki

5- Montero plays 1B with Cruz likely the DH which opens up RF for Aoki

6- Seattle needed a catcher and Clevenger fills that void while coming with four more years of control

The Trumbo trade and Aoki signing make alot of sense really.

WHAT????

Someone signed him for actual money? I guess he'd be good as a defensive oriented utility man, but he can't hit at all.

in the AL.... maybe it will be different in the NL.

Dude can't hit, but he can field. This is what you pay a veteran who can do that.
