They've had 2 months to figure out a direction to go in. To me, Kenny's comments make the whole organization look incompetent.

But to me, the biggest comment is that last one. There isn't that much available unless they are willing to spend money in FA on an OF or maybe SP, or go after some proven names on the trade market.

If I were a betting man, those comments are saying that they might go rebuild, and that scares the s*** out of me.

Or it means they are flexible, which is usually a good thing.

There is nothing wrong with making decisions based upon what is available on the marketplace. In fact, that DOES make me excited.

Yep, can't say you are adding on if you intend to trade Quintana. My guess is we see some rebuilding while adding MLB ready contract controlled players

I don't think this is such a big deal. They have several plans it sounds like. Qualifying Offers are just now being accepted / rejected. How could they possibly know what exactly their doing until the market plays out? Other teams need to know whether players are going to accept / reject, and if the Sox are in trade talks with any of those teams, they're in a state of limbo until those other teams know what they're doing. For instance, if Sox had anticipated making a play for Wieters, well they had to see what he would do. Now they know, so they move on re-evaluate.

Less disconcerted by the comments than by the fact this sure looks like KW throwing someone under the bus again.

This.

I understanding anything said publicly this time of year is just noise/misdirection, but why make Rick Hahn look bad in the process?

I stopped listening to what KW said a long time ago, as it's usually never honest. I'm sure people on here will still blame him for any bad move Hahn makes.

The thread should be closed here, as this is the most true thing that will be said in the entire thing.

It's a lot of work to touch base with all the other teams to get ideas about who could be available via trade and a rough estimate of what it might take to acquire said players.

They probably have targets, but if none of them are available or are too expensive, then it probably is a better idea to sell off some of your assets, provided you get the return you want.

Or just do nothing. I don't think many people would be happy about nothing...

Im fine with him throwing shade before the winter meetings, but to "go for it" last year, hit the FA market hard, and say you're in a 3 year window, only to follow it up by saying you might rebuild makes you look incompetent. That's not a look I want the fanbase seeing when Im in the business of selling tickets.

How in the world does this make Rick Hahn look bad?

BTW, December 3rd is the day season ticket deposits are due. At least the first installment.

I'm not buying this at all. If you believe this then you're a dummy. They know what they're going to do and who they're targeting.

Well of course they know who that want to get. They would be pretty stupid to come out and say we want player A from this team and player B from that team but here is all we are willing to give up to get them. The issue is if there are player they want and can't get them and they are running our of options then they might have to change course and starting selling get off.

This idea that our front office is unprepared is such a stupid narrative.

Anyone who has worked in any business at all knows that when you are depending on making investments where costs and availability are not certain, you have to have several backup plans and you have to be resigned to the fact that you will need to make a quick decision when the information finally gets to you.

I mean, think about all of the questions you'd have for the WS front office regarding who they should acquire or who they should trade. Now, how many of those answers are anything other than "it depends"? Should they trade Chris Sale? Depends on the return they could get and depends on the direction of the team which depends on the outcomes of other deals which depend on the costs that are attached to those deals which depends on what other teams decide to do when given the exact same problem under the same circumstances at the same time.

There are a billion ways to skin the cat, and almost NONE of the requisite information to choose the best way is even available yet.
