Everyone is so set on having Thompson replace Avi full time next year, but what if Thompson struggles too? Then what?

and the sox took a chance on giving Avi his position in the majors on a promise of potential.

If you can use him as a kicker for something you really like, you trade him, but if he has an option left, you don't give him away for junk. He does have talent. If he doesn't show up hitting this spring, and isn't changed by a trip to Charlotte, so what.

and you make a point.

however there is a little flaw in this post, no one mention giving Avi away let alone for junk.

it was an exploratory idea of a trade for Avi,.

and since Eminor wants to do something, does that mean no one has an idea that may be different???

What? You said that no one mentioned to give Avi away for free or for junk?

If you do get rid of him, use him as part of a package to get major league talent like a C or 3B.

I like Avi... I also like Trayce. Found the below to be interesting.

Avi in 2013 w/Sox

.304 5HR, 21RBI. 161AB

Trayce in 2015 w/Sox

.295 5HR, 16RBI in 122AB

Trayce also hit .234 in September and .231 in October. Those 2 months, reflected 90 of his 122 AB's of the season. (nearly 74%)

The Cubs still love Baez. There are some in their organization who think he would be a better SS than Russell.

I mean, the guy has his flaws, but he was still rated as a top 5 prospect in all of baseball just a couple years ago for a reason. We aren't getting him cheap if we want him.

Then we have a bad hitter who plays good defense instead of a bad hitter who plays bad defense.

The REAL plan should be to move Avi and then try to upgrade over Thompson the rest of the offseason, falling back on Thompson if necessary.

Avi in 2013 w/ Sox

111 wRC+, 0.0 fWAR

Trayce in 2015 w/ Sox

144 wRC+, 1.5 fWAR

And that also ignores the part of 2013 where Avi was with the Tigers, in which he managed to be sub-replacement level alongside a 73 wRC+
