lasttriptotulsa
For $2.5 million it's worth a shot. Maybe a change of scenery will do him some good.
justBLAZE
Not the upgrade at catcher I was hoping for, essentially he's another Tyler Flowers.
ChiSox59
Gross, but at $2.5M, no biggie. Just hate that this likely takes them out of bigger acquisition at C.
BlackSox13
I was hoping the Sox would sign Avila, nicely done Sox FO.
fathom
Just have him face righties with Flowers facing lefties/Sale personal catcher.
justBLAZE
Interesting, as his father just took over the GM duties with the Tigers.

fathom
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) Career 110 OPS+ vs RHP Crazy thing is he's only 28...would have thought he was
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:26 AM) Just have him face righties with Flowers facing lefties/Sale personal catcher. I co-sign this idea. Hopefully the Sox see it the same way
chetkincaid
Is he better that Soto?
GreenSox
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:24 AM) Not the upgrade at catcher I was hoping for, essentially he's another Tyler Flowers. That's what he is. Fine for a placeholder as we launch for 2017. He probably can play more than Soto; and he played first, so there's a backup should they be able to move Laroche along. chw42
Even when he was terrible last year at the plate, he got on at a .340 clip. So there's that.
Quin
I can dig it.
Whisox05
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) Even when he was terrible last year at the plate, he got on at a .340 clip. So there's that. Hey was injured most of last year
Buehrle>Wood
Awesome signing for that price.
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Will he be the starter or the backup? Flowers will catch Sale no matter what, but I wonder what Avila's role will be. For less than $3 million, I like this signing.

fathom
Can't wait for Hawk every game to talk about how beat up Avila gets behind the plate.
SoxAce
Great call Dick Allen. I, like fathom, was surprised he was only 28. Hopefully he has a one year show it year like A.J. In 05.
GGajewski18
Good signing for that price and that he is a LH bat so we don't have to see Flowers 5 days a week.
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) Platooning with flowers Gotcha. I think this could actually be a solid platoon. It seems like Flowers is much better at hitting left handed pitching.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) Can't wait for Hawk every game to talk about how beat up Avila gets behind the plate. This was the most obvious signing of the offseason. With Hawk and Stone always talking about him, you knew he was a future White Sox at some point. If he had continued to play like he played 4 years ago, it would have been when he was 34 or 35, but there is still some upside here.
