oldsox
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:06 AM) You harp on endlessly about "hero worship" yet think Price is worth that contract? No. Way overpaid, not good for baseball. I think.

BlackSox13
My opinion is this. I am glad his Sox are red and not White. Imo, its too much money annually but I do think Price will pitch well through the first three years and opt out. At that point Price will be 32 and Boston will be free of his salary which will be a blessing. Price will then sign a long term contract with the Yankees to take CC's place in NY as the next big pitching contract gone wrong. Boston should start praying Price doesn't get injured in year three or they will be on the hook for the long haul.
SCCWS
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) Ill give it 2.5 years before Boston regrets this deal Since the opt-out exists after 3 years, it may not matter. You can bet Price pulls a Greinke and is back on market in 3 years.

He needs a hero, He's holding out for a hero until the end of the night He's gotta be strong And he's gotta be fast And he's gotta be fresh from the signing of the 217M deal
Flash Tizzle
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:19 AM) agree and the sox do not have a while. i would even go to some of the teams that has comp picks and make a trade for that pick, to hurry the rebuilding of the minor team talent pool.... if only the sox would have over spent on 1 yr of int't draft. Why don't they have awhile, are they going somewhere? We're already on year 8 without a playoff appearance. If they're going to rebuild the minors it'll take time. GGajewski18
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:26 AM) no offense but i agree with the idea that price is worth his contract. he help shows the fan base including the season ticket holder and the fans with premium seating that they are out for business. we help in more local adv coming in, to the stadium adv, players adv, team logo selling adv, local tv commercial adv, more new corp adv money.... and help with the tv games for out of st fans. plus many more i can't even think. the rtn on the invested money will be a whirl wind. this is why i said and mention signing a Heyward, plus getting an additional sp on the cheap, and 1 very smart and savvy trade to replenish the system, will do wonders for the sox, maybe not like bos. the sox needs a big influx of positive media to do what they can't afford like getting of a Price contract. They showed that last year too with the signings of Hanley and Pablo. It's Boston and Fenway park, they sellout every game. The Price move isn't a PR move to get people in the seats, it's to make their ball club better, but at what price (no pun intended)? David Price is not worth that contract. Luckily for Boston, there's an opt out clause after 3 years.

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Why would Price opt out after 3 years? It's highly unlikely that he'd get a higher AAV than this new deal after those 3 years when he's 33 and most likely on the decline. But then again, these contracts teams are handing out are crazy so he probably will get more next time around. If they're going to rebuild the minors it'll take time. i will disagree on this and for the following reasons. ~~ of the 8 yr it is going on 3 yrs of when FO gave the timeline ~~ the success of the northside team, they can not let that team continue to do the positive moves per the media outlet ~~ the careers of the main core players, how much longer can the team wait. ~~ the sox will continue to flounder until they, the FO does something drastic and positive that the fans can see.... meaning player movement. ~~ the adv money and success

shysocks
QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Well gang, the Price deal (to me) officially seals the deal: The White Sox CAN NOT trade Q or Sale. There is no possible way to recoup the value that each is in terms of years of control and financial commitment left for the WSox. If I were Sale and Q, I'd be firing my agents for not having the foresight to anticipate the market for pitching. Security when young is one thing, but they cost themselves truckloads of $$. Keep the pitching and keep attempting to build around it. Don't disagree with any of the this. But something I haven't seen anyone point out is that most of the years Sale and Q signed away weren't free agency years anyway. They could've done worse, especially if either one had gotten hurt. Which could still happen. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:44 PM) You gotta remember though, if he opts out , that means he is more than earning his contract and can find a better deal. If he is injured or under achieving, no way he opts out. The opt out is an advantage for the player, not the team It is a no-lose for the player, of course, but it can also be a blessing for the team. If the player opts out then the team "misses out" on his oldest years of the deal. . And finally, why would the Rockies trade Arenado for a Q-based package? Somebody tell me a reason that doesn't involve that quote he gave about being unhappy. It makes no sense for them. Let's stop this. Any mention of his name should be punishable by a permaban. I'm 75% kidding.

Greinke is much younger when he opted out than Price will be, not to mention that he also had a career year as well right before he had the choice to opt out. Who knows how good Price will be the year before he can opt out, and even if he is as good as Greinke was this past season, he's going to be 33 ish.
