No chance. Q would cost Joc Pederson +. I think Rodon would actually cost more than Q. No chance the Dodgers would ask for that in return.

Rodon or Q for Ethier? Nooooo

ethier and eating laroche contract and taking laroche with no where to play him except for b/u

for Q.

i am just thinking that is what the dodger may want to do.

am i for it, no freaking way.

They may want that, but that doesn't mean the Sox would agree to it.

to tell you the truth, i was responding to someone and i really can't remember the point i was trying to make.

but dodger will want anything, but the sox are way smarter than that/

I think it's more likely that the Dodgers dump Crawford for nothing than Ethier. Ethier was actually good for them last year. You guys think LaRoche and an A-baller for Crawford and cash (with Dodgers dumping LaRoche to free agency) get it done?

I don't see why the Dodgers or White Sox would want to do that.

I guess so the Dodgers clear room in their OF (read earlier and saw they're unlikely to sell so low on Puig). The A-baller is just so they can get something back to make it worth their while for taking LaRoche (they did this a couple times last year). And then we get someone who can get some at bats in the outfield and primary DH.

I don't really think either would really do it since the Dodgers have the money to just release Crawford and pay him. But I was mostly addressing that they wouldn't just dump Ethier who was actually said for them.

The only reason I can think of as to why the Dodgers would take LaRoche in a trade would be if the Sox took Crawford back in return which the Sox aren't going to do. The Dodgers have Gonzalez at 1B and no DH so they have zero need for LaRoche and the Dodgers have plenty of better players they can plug in at 1B if Gonzalez needs a day off or gets injured. Even Crawford is more useful to the Dodgers than LaRoche.

And that’s a problem for the Dodgers. His trade value may have increased after his productive 2015, but not enough to draw significant interest at a player his age and still owed $38 million on the final two years of his contract. If a slight number of teams do express interest — no doubt with a caveat that the Dodgers absorb a significant amount of contract — the Dodgers would not want Ethier to be able to nix a potential deal because he has no interest in playing there.

I figured I would bump this since Ethier's name has been mentioned more lately. If Dilbeck is right and the Dodgers would willing to eat a significant portion of Ethier's salary, the Sox and Dodgers could match up again in a trade. Over the last few days I've seen some articles written about the Dodgers interest in Fowler as a lead off bat so they could be motivated.

For those that might be interested in Ethier, care to take a stab at what the Sox would need to offer? I'm guessing the less money the Sox ask for the less they will have to give up.

All things equal I think the Dodgers would prefer to trade Ethier. They certainly have the outfield help. At the same time money is not an issue. The main thing preventing Ethier from getting dealt is they haven’t been able to get anything significant in return for him. Teams are reluctant to take on his larger than appropriate salary which means the Dodgers would have to eat a portion of it in a trade.

Suck it up Dodgers and eat that money. Sox could use an OF left handed bat with pop.

How's Ethier's defense these days?

According to fangraphs his UZR, Arm and Range still rate around average or above. A smaller park like US Cellular would probably benefit an aging player like Ethier.

I'm open to the idea depending on the Dodgers expectations in a trade.

Moving this post from the Lagares thread:

Going the trade route, the top person I would target is Andre Ethier. Lefty bat, can platoon with Avi. Only 2 years left on the deal. Would seemingly cost a lot less than Cargo despite the fact that Ethier was the better player last year and even grades out as the better defender. Interesting detail I just read, Ethier gets 10 and 5 rights in April. So he can veto any trade at that point. Dodgers need to move him now if they want to guarantee they can move him.
