and ofcourse the negative nancies come in the thread and make you want to join the crowd in jumping off the bridge. Good lord.

I may be a Neg Nancy but I studied his stats, coupled with his still very-young age and status as a No. 1 draft pick before posting. It's reasonable after such a study to conclude he's the A's version of Avi - a guy probably worth giving up on. I mean, yeah, it's possible he could emerge (former first-round pick Beckham never did) but it's also possible he blows. Yeah if we only have to give up a couple non prospects, but I'm thinking the A's will go for blood and steal some "good" sox players for this bust (so far).

But seriously....is there anyone here who would feel comfortable rooting for this slimeball?

Yep and I would sleep just fine at night.

Lawrie isn't perfect but if cost is right I can accept. It is an upgrade and potential longer term fit at a position that has crap on the fa market.

That's just it, there's not much to choose from and imo, Lawrie is the best fit. Not necessarily a perfect fit but a fit no less.

Tell me why you like Lawrie and would OK giving up good prospects for him. Just curious. IMO the ONLY thing he has going for him is his age.

I kinda feel like he will hit a bit better in our ballpark compared to Oakland and as long as he stays healthy.

Except that he's better than Avi. Avi only has 1 season in the majors so far where he has posted a total value above a replacement player. So that comparison is fairly poor.

He is 26 and better then any other option we currently have, right?

He's 26 but he's not good so I just don't care about his age. Yes, he's better than what we have so if we didn't give up a lot for him then I'd be ok with it but I don't want to give up anything people are mentioning here besides Avi and I'm not anti trading prospects at all.

The point about his age is he still has a chance to get better then what he has been.

16 hr last year and 12 in only seventh games the yer before. Dude has pop and offensive talent. He also is a head case but his stats are far better then Gordon or avi and he does it at 3b, a position which is pretty weak overall in baseball right now. The other options are also fairly limited. He clearly is an upgrade over what we had and still has potential upside. Other than attitude issues, has he had any off the field problems?

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 12:04 AM)
What did lawrie do that makes him a douche?

This quote..

"The clashes continued into the Brewers’ system, where Brett chafed. He said he felt the organization wasn’t going to challenge him, and planned on moving him up the minor-league ladder rung by rung. This from a player who considered himself major-league ready.

There was no line of communication to Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, a Canadian, and Lawrie refused to participate in instructional league. Lawrie said he didn’t feel he had a support system, and his parents said he was unappreciated.

One day, a Milwaukee minor-league instructor was giving Lawrie a talk about how minor-league players are nothing special until they reach the big leagues, when the prodigy turned to his coach, pointed at every teammate and said: “I’m better than him, him, him, etc … ”"

These google results...

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrom...t+Lawrie+douche

And then there was one quote a few years ago when he was a minor leaguer and he said something about being pissed that he wasn't called up yet, saying he says when he is ready, not their GM.

EDIT: Oh, and add in that fact that he blocked his own team's beat writer on Twitter, probably because she spoke ill of him in an article, or at least didn't shower him with the glory he feels he deserves.

So stuff that's probably been at least 3 or more years ago?

Personally I like having a guy Like Lawrie on this team. Someone who plays with an edge, douche or not it's a good improvement in a hard position to upgrade. He reminds me a lot of AJP atleast with the rep he gets.

Also wouldn't be surprised if we give them a bullpen arm, Suzy reported earlier on that the As we're looking for SP and l/or bullpen help.

Trading for a 3rd basemen from the A's was a really good idea, last year. This year it is still a good idea, but Brett Lawrie isn't that great. He has the potential, no doubt, but he isn't great. That should be a significant detractor to his value. His youth, however, and relatively healthy season still gives him value. I just don't think I'd agree with sending any of our top prospects OR Erik Johnson for him...

But if the Sox are dealing from a position of 'desperation' or 'we need this guy', then they are probably going to lose this trade. If they are acting out of a position of acknowledging his value, but aren't terribly motivated to make a deal, then they could win this trade or at worst, have it be a lateral move.

This trade, if it goes down, will tell me a lot about who is really running this team.
