Suuuuuurre. What does it matter a guy can play 7 positions?.....it happens all the god damn time....

If he does it poorly at age 35 for close to 60 million I dont see the point. Your paying for value he may have had years ago. Not now.

Get Upton and Frazier and subtract Avi and LaRoche...I'm legit excited about this team for 2016.

During Hahns last update earlier this evening he said they were talking and Jerry is the one who tends to be aggressive been trying to find the post but that makes you think they may indeed be working on something larger the fact that JR is even involved. And I doubt he'd be involved in Brett Lawrie discussions.

First, it's money the Cubs are paying him and its money that is theirs so who cares what the cost of they can pay it?Second, there is no gaurantee that he is going to have a significant drop off just because he will turn 35 next year. Especially a guy who has made a career off of being smart, dynamic, and mostly having success because he is versatile. Who has flourished under Maddon previously and has a whole lot to play for the next couple of years.

He already had a significant drop off that's the point. It's not suggesting that it will happen. It already has. Just that it's going to get worse.

This move obviously doesn't move us to contender status but it's a solid move at a low cost. 3b has been an achilles heel to this team for far too long...maybe we get lucky and Brett outperforms expectations...even if he stays about where he's been, it's an improvement to our lineup and to our defense.

Why does it matter that he can play 7 positions when he couldnt defend last year? His defensive value is actually projected to get worse next year. Just like the Cabrera discussion in the other thread. He can play across the infield except he does it poorly. Well congrats to the Mets for playing 18 million for that.

Technically Brett(Baseball Reference) was better offensively and defensively

Zobrist is a career .983 fielder, above avg in his entire career
