In interviews he seems intense and cerebral, which reminds me of another west-division player the Sox bought low on.

Thinking the exact same thing. The Sox could use a bit more intensity, Eaton cannot do it all on his own. I think the best is yet to come from Lawrie, he is only 25 after all.

Oh I was thinking Quentin.

Not to hang that mantle on him or anything.

Eaton is intense but a goofball.

Oh OK, I forgot all about Quentin. I'd put Lawrie somewhere in between the two.

Was just watching videos of Lawrie on the MLB site and his teammates in Oakland sure seemed to like alot so he should fit in with the Sox. Hopefully Herm will be able to help Lawrie stay healthy and on the field.

I've got a sneaky feeling that Matt Davidson may be one of the pieces traded for Lawrie.

Davidson and Beck for Lawrie is my theory.

My sneaking feeling is to expect us to overpay for him. Montas and Micah for Lawrie and some other prospect

Some of you may find this article interesting:

Thank you for the link Lillian. That is an interesting read. Lawrie comes with some pros and cons but I think his energy and intensity is exactly what this lethargic team needs. I remember too many games where the Sox looked like lifeless dead. Eaton and Lawrie together could really provide a nice boost in the dugout.

i just read it, the word intense is sooo funny. i like him as a player. i wonder if he is the kind of player that will lead by example or verbally infuse his personality on players.... meaning take them into account for not running or hustling.

but the price???

I just hope they don't try to out intensity each other. They have the potential to be annoying. It could get old really quick.

Is it just me or does Lawrie scream mediocre 3B? I don't know about giving up anything significant for him.

We can go sign an Asian 3B. Keep the prospects.

Assuming by " Asian " you mean Matsuda. How much can really be expected from a 32 year old player that has never played in the majors? Lawrie on the other hand is only 25 with four years of MLB experience.

the unknown factor is how will that asian player preform in the mlb baseball??

with lawrie, he has a track record of success, success is very subjective word here.

for the first part of your post, the sox needs a 3b...... sometimes you have to pay that price for lack of proper planning and management ...

or they could be brothers in arms.

this is worth looking at when spring training comes.

Like I said earlier, his teammates in Oakland sure seemed to like him so I wouldn't read too much into the personality aspect of him.

As for the price. We should find out soon enough if/when the deal is announced.

I like that, brothers in arms.

I used to follow the game threads pretty regularly and too many times people were complaining about how the team looked lifeless and I agree with that. Hopefully a guy like Lawrie can help breath some life into the team and help keep things loose.

It's not just you... I was thinking the same thing. He seems like a mediocre loudmouth. He's a .263/.316/.736 hitter. Intensity? Shut up and play better. I'd rather give up nothing for the Japanese 3B.

Shame the Sox didn't get that kind of production from 3B last year,or the year before.

Another thing is we don't know what the Sox gave up so it might be players that factor into the future anyway. Plus, Lawrie's salary is cheaper than what Matsuda will cost and that allows money to be spent elsewhere to help fill another hole.

That's our reality though, which is mediocre/replacement level production at 3B is an upgrade.

The problem though becomes our offense was so woeful that marginally improving positions like 3B and C with such players doesn't really improve our standing within a tough American League Central. We've said time and time again there needs to be another significant, 4+ WAR potential bat in the lineup aside from Eaton and Abreu. I'd be fine with Upton, but given the contract he'd command and our limited payroll it's not likely. Someone with value like Quintana should be shopped for a package on par with Atlanta received from Arizona
