White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie

Beck seems unlikely to me, due to his missing most of 2015 and having elbow surgery (ulnar nerve transversal, same as Micah - not TJ). If it could be Avi combined with a lower level arm like Guerrero or the like, that is OK with me (though I like Guerrero). Engel would be the most upsetting among that crowd in my view, I think he's primed to break out.

This board b****es about everything. This is a solid move for this team. It improves defense and adds some pop for what will likely be a small cost.

this is my only defense on this forum. this is a sports forum, made by fans, for fans to gather as they would have in a pub and gives them the place and time to Biitch. .... and i enjoy this form of reading.

well as a fan of the sox, i am here waiting for the rest of this to unfold. what we know is lawrie is a sox, whether it is good or bad, that does not matter. it was a necessity that needed to be done. we all know why and at what failures of the past that lead us here. it is also here that we wait for that price to be mention.

that price..... that too needed to be done, to be paid, we as fans may or may not like the price, it needed to be paid.

this payment give the FO a little more time to continue to build this system, to find their replacement and not be under the gun of some kind.

i will not rant if that price is too steep for me, but i am only a fan.

what is next on the agenda.... who or what ever position is needed. remember next yr fa is pretty poor overall, i will demand here and now, that the sox look at next yr availability players and make and take that step now, to fix this team. this quasi 3-yr plan will hit a snag next yr, all for the sake of not making the necessary moves this yr.

What I think they do next: sign a middle-infielder (Cabrera?)

After: middle of the order bat

I don't see Danish/May/Beck/Guerrero having any future in the big leagues so I'm fine if they're the ones that will be traded.

They may have a future in the big leagues but as of right now, 3 spots are locked down for the next 4 years. Sale (4 years of control left), Quintana (5 years), Rodon (6). And by the time they likely trade from this group they probably would have already drafted 2 more pitchers in the first rounds of drafts.

I'm gonna guess Danish and May

I think they want at least one player who could be ready in 2016, and neither of those will be, most likely. Also with Danish, since he had his first rough year in 2015, the Sox would be selling low.

But either one could go certainly. For position players, I see Avi/Thompson, but also May, Engel, Coats, E Alvarez, Michalczewski, Peter and maybe Narvaez as potential fits. For arms, although the system is dense in good arms, most aren't close to ready. So that's a tough call, could be any of a doze or more if they are willing to go less-developed.

I wonder if the Sox are trying to get more than Lawrie from Oakland.

Good call, if OAK asked for more in prospects, Sox may be looking to offset.

I wouldn't mind picking up Josh Reddick either, assuming they can extend him relatively cheaply.

Even if they can't, I think he's a prime candidate to receive and reject a QO next off-season, which would be a worst case scenario (basically what I said about Samardzija last year if the team sucked haha unfortunately the worst case scenario happened) Though I'd rather try to extend first.

I don't think Oakland is ready to sell on Reddick. They likely want to keep him and contend in 2016. Unless they're getting Trayce, that doesn't make sense.

Could see the Sox trying to get one of the A's many young, back of the rotation arms for some pitching depth.

Yeah wasn't it reported that the Sox are looking for a right-handed starter before the Winter Meetings started?

i like that idea.....

but for me, and basing this on what i mention on the fa of next yr, no trade unless the sox really gets a haul, sign a MI as you said and sign 2 major hitter in fa. yes i know the sox will loose their comp pick and 2nd rounder now, but this will really help in many ways.

last, to convince the owners to eat laroche contract and platoon him with one of the fa hitters the sox sign or melky at dh and backup 1b.

As long as he's not violent or dangerous to others, I couldn't care less how big of a douche the guy is if he can play. The supposed king of all douche's was a huge part of 05.

This. As long as AJ was our douche, it was all-good. I hated him before '05 and became a huge fan afterwards.

Avi, Engel, May, Webb, Putnam, Beck, Lowry, Leyer, Wheeler, Wendelken, Fry, Jaye....Just keep the package to 1 of those OF's and 1 of those pitchers and it's a good deal for us. Hopefully Hahan doesn't deviate too far from a package like that.

Jace Fry is down recovering from his 2nd TJ surgery, likely doesn't pitch again until late 2016. He has zero trade value, especially given the patchy track record of pitchers who have had 2 TJ surgeries.

Just a guess but I think the Sox are looking to include Reddick. That's alot of outfielders Oakland is looking at and the Sox have a need for a real RF with defense. Reddick is left handed with pop and could hit behind Abreu. The Sox could fill two noles in one trade. Reddick would keep the Sox from spending big on a FA OF bat thus saving a '16 draft pick and could look at extending both Lawrie and especially Reddick since he's a FA after '16.

I'm just speculating but the trade history between these two teams justifies the speculation.
