Rowand44
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) I honestly believe Theo/Jed are bluffing. Heyward is such a question mark in CF. There is no way they go into the season with Schwarber and Soler as the corner OFs. That D would be bad. I still think Heyward is their RF on opening day and Soler (or Baez) is dealt for a CF. That's what I'm guessing too but who knows. I absolutely love Heyward but I do wonder what a move to cf would do to him.
Bigsoxhurt35
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) They'll trade them too late before too early, every player you mentioned. And that's not their fault right now. In order for someone to get Sale, they have to rip up their team and farm. Quintana has a ton of value also. Teams gota give up so much. Our best shot was with Arizona and the Braves got it done with Shelby Miller. You can't just trade these guys to trade them or you'll f*** up and not get the right return. Completely Agree here. I fully expect Heyward to be in RF when the season starts. They'll acquire someone in CF.
caulfield12
All they have to do is stick Parra in RF and get someone to take Hammel's contract...Zobrist can play RF but apparently they are committed to him mostly at 2b. If they don't trade Baez, he could end up in RF as well.
maggsmaggs
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) 2008 Carlos Quentin says hello...yet another player whose career with the Sox didn't quite end up fulfilling its early promise. You could probably get quite an argument from Konerko fans on the Magglio point as well. Quentin's 2008 year was worth 4.7 WAR (granted he missed the last month). Heyward has equaled or surpassed that number in four years (2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015). Konerko's highest WAR season was 3.8, and he only had three seasons of 3-plus WAR. This has to be the case. When I was on board for signing Heyward, it was under the assumption he'd have Trayce or Eaton in center next to him. Now Heyward has to cover for both Schwarber AND Soler? We've also gotten the likes of Nestor Molina and Matt Davidson back for our expendable pitchers. Peavy and Santiago were the two deals that were more successful...although Avi has failed, there are still Montas, Lawrie and Rondon representing that fortuitous move. Granted, we should have fought for Iglesias instead...the outfield need was more apparent at that moment.
caulfield12
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 09:03 AM) Quentin's 2008 year was worth 4.7 WAR (granted he missed the last month). WAR would also say Heyward or Alex Gordon are far superior to Konerko, Abreu and post-1997 Frank Thomas. Would the White Sox have a better chance next year with Abreu gone, Heyward or Gordon in the outfield, LaRoche at 1b and Cabrera/Avi as the DH? Not seeing it... Both of those guys are closer to complementary pieces than superstars.

Baseball is a three-dimensional game. Edited December 12, 2015 by maggsmaggs

Quin
Fun hypothetical that has 0 chance in happening: If Trayce and Soler were swapped, how would it affect the teams and what would the national and local reactions be? I'd say our reaction here would be that Soler is just going to be another Avi and now we're going to see Trayce grow into a star with the Cubs as helps move Heyward to RF. National media would start talking about Trayce's potential and what led the Cubs to give up on Soler.
elrockinMT
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 12:31 AM) You can win the offseason but that doesn't guarantee you'll win the WS. I guess e found that out for sure last year as have other clubs. If folks are so enthralled with the Cubs moves I would just ask which Chicago team last won the pennant and World Series? But, if the Cubs win in 2016 more power to them. I think we will be right up there in the AL race
maggsmaggs
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) No? Robertson's peak value is a 2.0 WAR closer, which is not bad at all, but Schwarber was worth that in half a season in his rookie year. So ya, Cubs ain't making that move. Quin
http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...valry/77174950/ Nightengale: Jason Heyward a good get for Cubs, but NL Central far from a done deal If you look over the past season, his numbers are even eclipsed by the center fielder on the other side of town, Adam Eaton. Eaton scored more 19 more runs, hit one more homer, had a higher on-base percentage, and his .792 OPS was just slightly lower than Heyward’s .797. As has been stated in this thread, so much of Heyward's value is tied up in him being the best right fielder in the world. In center, this could really bite the Cubs. caulfield12
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/schmuck...1211-story.html Questions why Heyward is worth so much with such pedestrian offensive numbers...and the impact on a potential Chris Davis contract in Balt. Calls the deal mind boggling when many pundits think it's Epsteinian genius.
