shysocks
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Staying off Twitter for a little while I must have a well-curated timeline, because it doesn't even have wind of this news.
GoSox05
My lord, the Cubs are going to be so nasty next year.

Dick Allen
If the Cubs young guys turn out half as decent as everyone thinks, they are going to have a Dodgers payroll in a few seasons.
fathom
Gonna suck more when they cash in on Soler. Guess they did have that money
hogan873
Well, the good news is that the rest of the FA outfielders will be signing soon. Wonder what the Cubs will be paying him.
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
This really could be a blessing in disguise for us Sox fans. Heyward's inflated deal could prevent the Cubs from locking up their young guns long term. Not to mention that they're throwing $200+ million at a guy similar to Adam Eaton. Dick Allen
It is funny that Witenmeyer is the guy reporting this. A year ago he was crying how bleak it was for the Cubs, especially financially. That the banks told Ricketts to sell. Now, they are spending wildly. There are no excuses now. The greatest players, the greatest manager, Theo....it will be sweet when it all falls apart.
fathom
Sounds like he took less for better chance to win.

A year ago he was crying how bleak it was for the Cubs, especially financially. That the banks told Ricketts to sell. Now, they are spending wildly. There are no excuses now. The greatest players, the greatest manager, Theo....it will be sweet when it all falls apart. Hard to believe they dont win a world series in the near future. If they dont though for some reason, I dont think their fanbase will ever come back from that.
Kalapse
The Cubs have added so much WAR this offseason, just going based on Steamer projections: Zobrist 3.3 Castro 0.8 in 2015 Lackey 2.9 Rotating 5th starter: 1.2 in 2015 Heyward 4.7 Fowler 3.2 or Soler 0.1 in 2015

Buehrle>Wood
I guess the good news is that their success will still hinge on Arrietas elbow. Still think they should have blown their stack on a top of the line pitcher.
LittleHurt05
Well we know who the WS favorite on paper will be in 2016. Fortunately, that team almost never wins it all.
BlackSox13
Could Heyward be the cubs next Soriano?
dpd9189
Cubs still need another SP. That being said, they're going to be a powerhouse for a while.
chetkincaid
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Staying off Twitter for a little while This was worst case scenario And the only thing we've done is sign 2 catchers and Brett Lawrie. We're doomed. Next year is going to be so bad. We're all gonna die.

We're doomed. Next year is going to be so bad. We're all gonna die. Cubs winning the World Series would put the sox pretty close to their death bed if they stay bad. bigruss
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) Cubs still need another SP. That being said, they're going to be a powerhouse for a while. And they now have an expendable Soler to trade for one.
LDF
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) Where did I say any of that? I was alluding to the 3 teams in the running for him as I said the previous day. either way, many teams are going to wait to see what heyward does and then, imo there will be a next wave of movement. now whether the sox will be in that group or not, who knows. YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
I'm not that upset over this honestly. Yeah, his defense is great but he has only 15 homer power. That's not worth $200 million in my mind.

Yep, they can overpay for someone like Carrasco now by giving up Baez/Soler. I bet the Cubs sign Span as well.
