Then good luck to him. Now that Davis is signed, there should be clarity in the market for Cespedes. It's on him and his agency to get the best offers now, and pick one.

And if the Sox don't match up, so be it. They have other options that will still be better than Garcia.

Mostly, I think fans want Cespedes just because it feels like a win and it's not about what he actually brings as a player. He's good, but he's not that good...and don't discount that he could be a player that's part of the problem if things go bad in April and May. Then everyone will hate the guy and regret having him for 3-4 more years.

Torches will only light up the Chicago skyline on the southside of the city.

first, 5 yrs of Cespedes too many yrs, that will make him 36 when the contract ends. i think 4yrs is just about right.

however i am already acknowledging the fact that the team will not invest in anymore if any fa's..... that is a ship that has moved into another horizon.

however, i wonder about some minor trades. i mean they can do that, at least...... but will they???

going into the sox convention, there will be many media news of how the sox couldn't spend b/c of budgetary reasons, or no money or any kind of b/s. i wonder if there will be any fans who will have the balls to address this there????

i really don't care one way or the other if the sox really dive into the fa's market, i would prefer the trade route with some of the players that are rumored to be available..... and no, i do not mean any of of Col players.

If they weren't going to upgrade the outfield, trading Thompson to a team that doesn't even need him made no sense.

Fowler would have been measured against a 1.5 war in terms of upgrade rather than Avi.

And, if the improvement's so great (Frazier vs. Saladino), then why are we content with that same player at SS?

The Dodgers not needing an OF'er means absolutely nothing to the sox.

Frazier upgrade over Saladino is much larger than the slight downgrade between Saladino over Alexei.

I hope we do sign him, but I think he goes back to the Mets.

i am really at an impasse with this, yeah i want him and it would not cost a pick..... but i think i would like a couple of key players from 2 team that makes more sense. but what the hay, what in hades do i know.

Sox have nothing left to trade. Any upgrades really need to be via FA

i can see what you are saying and i will respect your opinion.

however i still think that sox do have some assets to trade from, even if it mean trading some of the prized prospects. the window of opportunity is now.... not 2 or 3 yrs from now.

make smart trades not desperate trades.

Just using WAR for an example. Cespedes has a cumulative WAR of 15.8 during his four seasons in the MLB. Over the same time frame Davis has a 15.1 WAR. There could be some truth to the report that Cespedes is looking for as much or more than Davis and might back up suspicions about Cespedes waiting for Davis to sign.

If this is the case, I'm glad the Sox FO have backed off Cespedes and are looking at other alternatives.
