thxfrthmmrs
I also like that we haven't added any major salaries yet (though we lost 6 prospects in at least top 30, and 3 in the top 10). I am pretty confident that we have at least 2 more big moves coming.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:42 PM) I would cry tears of joy if Hahn ended the offseason by getting Cespedes and Gerardo Parra. I think it will be one position player and one pitcher.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (venom4789 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) So does trace even get playing time with all the outfielders on the dodgers. Still think this is a great trade for the white sox. Puig will get moved, I think. Maybe they completely drop Crawford. Trayce is going to get time. He's got the defensive value that the others don't.

Any predictions as to the specific players the Sox will get? If Hahn doesn't get any of the big guns, I'm predicting the Sox will get Denard Span and Doug Fister. ptatc
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) This is the least important part of the previous argument. Whatever Reinsdorf says, goes. He is, for all intents and purposes, the owner of the Chicago White Sox. Whatever he wants to do, he can do. He has talked repeatedly about being responsible to the rest of the board members. I'm not as confident as Dick Allen is that this is true. He has a history of criticizing JR and his budget statments and esponsibilities. I respect his opinion but he is far from impartial when it comes to opinions on JR.
ptatc
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) How is it not feasible? Yoenis will cost a pretty penny, but I'd have to imagine that Parra could be had for cheap. Its not feasible becuase the sox are already paying two OFs good money. There is only room for one more, unless he trades LaRoche.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) Its not feasible becuase the sox are already paying two OFs good money. There is only room for one more, unless he trades LaRoche. If you add two outfielders, you are talking a ton of money invested in the outfield (when you factor in Melky). It makes zero sense. Sox aren't making two big money moves and they aren't going to use their other chips to get a 2nd outfielder. It is a delusional expectation, imo. If Sox make a 2nd move, it is SS or a pitcher (pen or starter or maybe even a prospect they like that they think can slide in).

caulfield12
There's also more of a hole in our theory of creating a "super pen" with Montas gone. Right now, our pen is average or maybe a tick above but certainly not an overall strength unless Nate Jones is 100% reliable. He Looked good last year (better tha expected, actually), but April and May is a different animal than meaningless games late in the season. fathom
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) Can you find my actual post on Rodon for Frazier? I'll man up to it if I said it but my posts get turned around ALOT on here and I don't remember ever making a proposal for Frazier officially. Like fathom said if Ethier had also been in this deal I'd have been very happy with it. I just think we ALWAYS overpay. I'm happier Ethier ISN'T in the deal

We weren't going to give up on him as a starter yet. Maybe...maybe not, we'll never know what would have happened had he remained on an all in, win now constructed roster. Obviously Sale was pushed into that role in 2010. Guess we will see with Fulmer, as it stands....with Danish, Beck and Webb on the outside looking in. Danish with his delivery and ability to throw harder in short bursts would be the next logical conversion candidate. Obviously, long-term, Fulmer absolutely has to succeed as a starter and replace Danks or Johnson. If Sox make a 2nd move, it is SS or a pitcher (pen or starter or maybe even a prospect they like that they think can slide in). I rather us get a bullpen arm than SS. There aren't any good investments in the market currently and Sanchez/Saladino are viable stop gaps until Anderson in 2017. If we get an upgrade at OF, with SS being the only glaring hole in the offense, I think most are fine with. With bullpen arms, we lost the next two guys up in Montas and Wendleken, and I don't think Albers is coming back, it's definitely a more glaring hole ATM. A bullpen of Jones, Kahnle, Putnam, Petricka, Duke, Jennings, and Robertson is decent, but I'd like one more solid acquisition to solidify the back end to get to Robertson. The Sox can't make this move without something else in the works in terms of OF help, IMO. I'm sure we will soon see but upgrading 4 spots in the order & hoping for a few bounce backs could ultimately make this team a surprise to most. Still a long way to go but happy so far. caulfield12
Desmond remains the fallback option from the Big 3....but there would still be a lot of disappointment and the lost draft pick. That said, there's a ton of talk about his atleticism allowing him to easily convert to an outfield spot. I doubt they will give up the draft pick for Fowler or sign Span...those are just marginal upgrades, comparatively. Same with Parra, Austin Jackson, Travis Snider, Victorino, etc. Edited December 16, 2015 by caulfield12
southsider2k5
QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) used to love Trayce Thompson's skill set/upside. He will be an All-Star, one of the rare prospects wh is much better as a matured major-leaguer than his mediocre minor-league record projects. The batspeed, the hand-eye coordination, natural power + the cool yet aggressive temperament, athleticism, instincts = major league quality. Forget about stats, that's not how you evaluate talent in any sport. If OTOH you believe he is a poor man's Brian Anderson, then it's good trade. Same with Montas. If he's a raw Bartolo Colon, then it's a mistake. If just pen arm, no big deal. Micah Johnson? Never got the hype. An All Star? You are still insane. caulfield12
An All Star from a marketing perspective, maybe...more useful close to his roots and brother in So Cal than the Sox.

Could always find a 5th starter somewhere though it'd be great if Fulmer or Adams could be that guy.
