justBLAZE
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) If that is accurate, it sounds like they really upped their initial offer, which the best news of all as it means they have less chance to maintain their core going forward. #missionaccomplished Confirmed. Heyman says Gordon was looking for 20mil AAV so took a small "hometown" discount to stay with KC.
Bigsoxhurt35
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) Where did you see/hear this? If true atleast you know we are willing to spend $ Seen a tweet on a Chiefs/Royals Board.
caulfield12
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) If that is accurate, it sounds like they really upped their initial offer, which the best news of all as it means they have less chance to maintain their core going forward. #missionaccomplished Hosmer and Moustakas are gone regardless because of Boras. Cain's going to be overpaid and nearing his decline stage after two more years. You're really talking about Wade Davis, Volquez or Escobar staying or not. And from KC's standpoint, almost no Davis contract will work out with how dominant he has been the last two years. Or trying to keep Morales after this year. bmags
Caulfield, you don't need to write "From KC's standpoint", it is assumed.

caulfield12
We are really good at finishing "this close" but just out of the running. 2nd place. Another White Sox niche. Loyalty is a two way street. One significant consequence of not developing enough position players and having to rent them on the free agent market. In a way, Gordon on the Sox would have been as jarring as Torii Hunter. Edited January 6, 2016 by caulfield12
Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Confirmed. Heyman says Gordon was looking for 20mil AAV so took a small "hometown" discount to stay with KC. It's only taking a discount if he was actually offered more money by another team. Haven't you told us the White Sox loyalty is a bad thing. Loyalty got Sale, Quintana, Eaton, agreeing to very team friendly extensions. This situation is very similar to when Konerko was a free agent after the 2005 season. What did he do? This is a funny comment regarding the Royals considering they have long been considered the feeder team for the rest of the league

Rock I know you don't get the same inside information as you used to, however you've always had a good feel for the way the FO operates. What would you put our chances of signing Cespedes at. Assuming it's going to cost atleast a $20 AAV?
Y2Jimmy0
If the White Sox indeed offered more money, there's not much else they could do. He wanted to stay.

Eminor3rd
Yeah you have to remember that the Sox could NOT have had Gordon at 4/72 -- they would have needed to beat that offer by enough to pull him away from KC. Minimum is probably 4/80, maybe more. So evaluate whether you wanted him at 4/80 or 4/85 at least. Maybe the answer is still yes. I think I'm on the fence at that price, especially given that there are other options.
Y2Jimmy0
If the Sox can lock up Cespedes, it's actually not a terrible thing. Get to keep the draft pick and still upgrade the team. Also, the Royals signing Gordon basically pushes Hosmer and Cain out of town before long.

Do they have to go "all in" every year? The team will be continue to get better each year. Maybe sign Austin Jackson for two years then sign Cain from the Royals when he is a FA? I like him better than Gordon.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) Why does todays pick matter when the offseason isnt over? Because Royals. The guy who told us when it appeared Gordon was moving on, what a mistake it would be for them to bring him back, has the baby oil working right now. The only reason I would like to see them sign someone now, versus next year, is that the free agent class next year is awful
