spiderman
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) No. Nope, the Sox can win the off-season, but the Cubs move have WON the off-season.
LittleHurt05
Sure they can. To quote the great Jake Taylor, "Just win the whole f***ing thing". Do that 2 or 3 times, then you might steal the city.

Balta1701
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 22, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I feel like it'd have to be 4 or 5 in a row. If we'd done 2 in 3 years, starting in say...2010...perhaps. Now? The Cubs actually have a good team.

EvilJester99
The Sox would have to win a few more WS and be in the playoffs every year for the next 10 yrs and they Cubs would have to go back to the norm of them sucking... even then not likely they could steal the town. chetkincaid
Sure we can... ESPECIALLY f we kick the Cubs asses in the World Series a few times. Think about it... sure there are a lot of Cubs fans but there are also a lot of people in Chicago who HATE the Cubs. The White Sox would be a viable alternative. Marky Mark
You need Wrigley Field to crumble to win the town.
Southwest Sider
I agree that the Sox would have to win at least 2 or 3 more championships to steal the city... INCLUDING beating the Cubs in the World Series. And that would still only give them a chance of 50/50 in the immediate term. At that point, the diehard Cubs fans would never switch, so they would still have a massive fanbase, but most casuals would be onboard and a new generation of Chicago baseball fans might turn to the Sox because they are winners. If the Cubs fall back into mediocrity and the Sox win a few more championships over the course of a couple decades, then the tide would start turning in the Sox favor with older generations of Cubs fans dying off and new generations choosing the Sox because of their winning ways. /dreamland. Thinking of this does remind me how crucial of a point this is for the White Sox franchise. The goal right now is to not only get to the World Series, but defeat the Cubs in it because there is a good chance they will be there. Knowing this, it really behooves the Sox to spend more now to get the best possible team in the field to give yourself the best chance of denying the Cubs a title... It will take sustained winning to get us there, but don't you believe it cannot happen.
BaconOnAStick
The City of Chicago has slight edge to the Sox. Cook County at large is about 50/50. There is nothing to steal. Sox fans just don't show up because the ballpark is ugly. The only tourists coming to the Cell are Tigers fans on road trips. There's your problem with attendance figures, the building sucks. Dick Allen
The 66-96 2006 Cubs drew 200k more than the defending world champion White Sox which was a record for the White Sox. Anyone who really thinks the White Sox can overtake the Cubs either doesn't live in Chicago or is stoned beyond belief.

BaconOnAStick
So if the Sox and Cubs switched stadiums, do you think the attendance issues would be solved? If the Sox and Cubs switched stadiums it would be downright bizarre and nobody would know what to make of it. Had the Cubs demolished Wrigley 25 years ago, and the Sox rehabbed instead of demolished Comiskey, things would be very different attendance-wise. bighurt574
We're not going to steal Chicago, but if both teams are serious playoff contenders for a stretch, it would certainly help boost our attendance, etc. Chicago has been a pretty miserable baseball town the past 10 years, for the most part. It's starting to pick back up, at least on the North Side. Hopefully down South as well.

greg775
Sox do always seem to get good offseason press. Is there any proof the Sox are intent on acqually replacing Avi in right? Or LaRoche at DH? Edited December 22, 2015 by greg775
LDF
to be brutally honest, that wagon has already past and we as fans can just wave bye-bye. as long as the northside continues to do or continues to get stronger, no matter what the sox does they will be regulated as the bastard step-child. so the best remedy, esp to rub their face into the crap, is to win, have the owners really get the players to win, to go to the next step = playoff and win, and finally get to the WS and win. that is the best remedy......
