BlackSox13
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 04:26 PM) Does them take them out of the OF'er market or do they have $$$ to spend? The Nat's are currently sitting at 101M for 2016 and that's for 11 player + retained contracts but does not include Murphy's impending salary nor arbitration salaries. Contract obligations for '16: http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/washington-nationals/payroll/ Here's a link for the Nat's speculated arbitration salaries for '16 which totals roughly 35M. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/proj...s-for-2016.html As of now the Nat's are looking at 135-138M in payroll that does not include Murphy's salary which should easily push them a tick over 150M. Assuming of course the Nat's keep all their arbitration players and sign for the speculated salaries. One thing not included is filling out the roster with league minimum players. Include them and were looking at about 155M in total payroll for '16. Depending on how aggressive their ownership is, they do have room to add a big OF bat and not have to pay a luxury tax. I have no clue if they would do this or not but fwiw their '15 payroll was 146M so I have a difficult time believing they would jump from 146M to around 180M in one off season. Whisox05
Source: Murphy deal with #Nationals is three years, $37.5M. Again, pending physical. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/680189208359776256
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
That's actually a pretty good deal for them. I wouldn't have minded bringing him in if Frazier/Lawrie hadn't have been acquired.
caulfield12
Is Saladino fails, that's when you can try to bring in Desmond (one year plus option based on incentives) or bring back Ramirez potentially. At least you preserve the draft pick and give Saladino his chance to earn the position with regular playing time. In early June....it's a huge risk though, as Morales and Drew struggled mightily. It took until the next season for him to get his timing back without a spring training regimen.
Knackattack
Jesus, for that price I wouldn't have minded him coming in for LF and some one like Parra for right
Baron
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) Not with a pick attached... If they sign Gordon. Might as well try to get another guy with a pick attached.
BlackSox13
That's less than what I would have thought. Sounds like a nice deal for the Nat's.
Whisox05
If Daniel Murphys contract is finalized that moves Sox up to 27 pick http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/upda...medium=facebook Edited December 25, 2015 by WhiteSoxLifer
caulfield12
Considering lots of speculation about $14-18 million per season after the playoffs, that's one of the more seemingly reasonable deals so far this offseason. The World Series brought him back to reality a bit, as his defensive shortcomings reared their ugly head.

San Diego will still receive 2 picks before the Sox. Counting that, they pick at #29.
ChiliIrishHammock24
31-year-old 2B who projects to be about a 2-2.5 WAR player. I don't think $12M a year is exactly a steal. All his value is essentially tied up in his ability to make contact. Not much power, below average defense, doesn't walk much. He's not that exciting. Guy doesn't excite me much, but he did only strike out 32 or something times all of last season. Not that really matters but atleast he gives you an a bat. Again glad we passed but still not a bad deal for the Nats especially after the Phillips thing fell apart. I think I rather have Murphy than Phillips at basically the same price.
