Jose Abreu
I know there was an Upton/Cespedes poll, but now it seems as if we're not getting Upton.
ChiSoxFanMike
Cespedes and it isn't close.
BaconOnAStick
I'd be extremely happy with either, but Cespedes is a guy I've wanted on the Sox for years.
shipps
Cespedes only because of age giving him the slight edge for me but I still feel like its rolling some heavy dice with him as well.
MDWhiteSoxFan
Give me Cespedes... brings more power to the plate, is an above average defender, younger, and most important we keep our QO pick.
shipps
If we were giving two year contracts to either of these players and they would take them I would go with Gordon in heartbeat.

Sockin
Gordon. I feel he's a much better all around player, this team needs OBP and defense badly. You can live on the HR but when it's of the solo variety it's going to be difficult. Edited December 29, 2015 by Sockin
chw42
I'm going to assume Cespedes will cost more and demand more years, but we don't lose a draft pick if we sign him. Gordon may be better at getting on base and defense, but Cespedes has a lot more pop and is 2 years younger. If I had to choose, I'd say Cespedes. EvilJester99
Cespedes but wouldn't be upset to get Gordan either
bschmaranz
I don't even care which one at this point. Just do something.
blackmooncreeping
Cespedes. More dynamic, more power, and i dont want to lose a draft pick, much less to a division foe. Plus it sounds like Gordo doesn't really want to come here and just wants to stay in kc
Lillian
I would have thought Gordon, because he's a left handed hitter, which you all know I covet. However, looking at his career stats, Cespedes has actually hit RH pitching a little better than LH pitching. It's always useful to remember that most of the tough lefties, in our Division, are on our staff, so I wouldn't worry too much about how a guy hits lefties. Cespedes profiles better as a clean up hitter, which I'd prefer to having Gordon hitting somewhere other than in the 3 - 5 spots, in the lineup. He's 2 years younger, and a great physical specimen. The Sox would be able to keep the draft pick. Yoenis has more "Star" appeal, and might generate more excitement. I love the Cuban connection, especially if they bring back Alexei. Cespedes has the potential to play RF, especially with that arm, and the Sox need a right fielder. Like many of you, I really doubt that Gordon has any interest in playing for the Sox. Chicago White Sox
I've said it before, but I prefer Gordon over Cespedes. His on-base skills and defensive instincts should both age well, making him much less of a risk for a sudden drop-off than a guy who relies on pure athleticism. The front office has already done a great job adding power this offseason, but we desperately need another high OBP guy in front of Abreu and Gordon is pretty much a perfect fit for that spot. Chicago White Sox
Also, while I'm sure Gordon would like to stay in KC, I don't see him taking a huge discount to stay there. This is his last big payday and he's coming off a team friendly deal. If the Royals are really offering something like 4/$60M, then the Sox could be a very attractive alternative. GreenSox
Cespedes. I think Gordon's better, but he's older and a bit frail. I don't think the Sox are contending with either one, so I'll vote for the acquisition that would do the least long term damage. And that is Cespedes. I also think there's a decent chance they get get him cheaper/shorter than the cw suggests.
caulfield12
Somebody will pay Cespedes a handsome fee, though, and will be better for it. According to FanGraphs' calculations, Cespedes was worth $53.9 million in 2015 alone. His Steamer projection has him being worth approximately $24.9 million in 2016, but 3.1 fWAR seems like it is a conservative projection considering his seven-win upside. Yet he sits on the sidelines watching others snatch up huge deals. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2015/12/2...yoenis-cespedes Why does nobody (seemingly) want Yoenis Cespedes? hi8is
Surprised to have voted for him but - Gordon. I was on the Cespedes train but after a month of blah analysis... I've switched sides.
Marky Mark
I guess I'd go with Cespedes. I just feel very nervous about Gordon's durability going forward. I'm also hoping that Cespedes' history in a pitcher's ballpark, make his previous stats tamer than they would be in the Cell. Now if Upton was part of this question, I'd say him in a heartbeat. But between the other 2, I suppose I would go with Cespedes.
winninguglyin83
Five years of Gordon seems like a good bet for buyer's remorse by year three. But I do wonder why nobody seems to want to hold on to Cespedes. Four teams in four seasons? What's the catch? Where's the trap door? GreenSox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) Why does nobody (seemingly) want Yoenis Cespedes? Because if you take out his 2015, you have a ballplayer with an OBP of around a paltry .300 who hits 25ish homers a year. His D is pretty good, but he is reportedly kind of a goofball. Nothing special about that.
Real
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 29, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) Gordon x 100 imo the only way gordon would be as valuable as cespedes is if he maintains his .370+ obp if it drops into the 350s or lower cespedes is infinitely more valuable
