Jenksismyhero
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) He followed it up with a tweet asking the same thing. To score points and to keep bringing up a scandal that involves Hillary and continues to have traction with people. I'm much more concerned about his statement that he wouldn't tell Putin to stop meddling in the US election. And are you talking about this? Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 2h2 hours ago If Russia or any other country or person has Hillary Clinton's 33,000 illegally deleted emails, perhaps they should share them with the FBI! shysocks
Trump campaign also gave notice today that he won't be releasing his taxes, which makes this particular bulls*** garbage birther tweet from four years ago a real knee-slapper. Donald J. Trump 1:34 PM - 30 Oct 2012 @realDonaldTrump Why does Obama believe he shouldn't comply with record releases that his predecessors did of their own volition? Hiding something? ptatc
QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) I think anyone who tries to rank one of these two above or below the other in honesty and character looks foolish. These two are cut from the same cloth. All you can look at are the positions and argue those. But to compare one against the other on any character scale is just scary. On this we agree. However, this board on politics is just as entertaining as the campaign. How many posts are there promoting a candidate or a position vs. tearing the other candidate down? Balta1701
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) "Two bit groups" meaning they were just too small to matter on a national scale. They were still legitimate conservative groups and there were a number of them suddenly audited because of their names. You know if this happened under W you wouldn't be justifying it. But, #itsdifferent, as usual. They were NOT audited in the so-called IRS scandal. They requested IRS guidance on whether or not they met the standard of having their "primary purpose" be something other than politicking, and the IRS is compelled to provide an opinion on that. Larger groups who can afford their own lawyers knew that the IRS and FEC were toothless as long as they filed the right forms, but when the IRS was asked to provide an opinion on something they (gasp) asked for some documents to verify the primary purpose standard. They did this from groups that sounded political, from both sides of the aisle, but the side that thinks Americans United for Trump can be a non-political organization had an issue with someone determining that name was political and asking anyone to verify it. The entire scandal was people daring to use judgment on saying that the 9/12 project groups might be political because their name implied it, and the IRS having no means through which to actually answer questions filed by groups after the Citizens United ruling dismantled all campaign laws. Basically they apparently are required to rubber stamp those applications in all cases and so it doesn't matter whether the group actually follows the law because the law has been rendered unenforceable. Texsox
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 12:57 PM) Agreed. Stupid to say/joke about given Russia IS trying to hack us daily and probably has succeeded, but ultimately I think this is more on the side of Trump being Trump and trying to land a joke about Hillary and her emails, more so than evidence of what Trump will actually do with authority under the executive. And for the record when a Dem says something similar I am not being a hypocrite when I laugh it off.

illinilaw08
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) I know but the majority, especially about the Presidential campaign is not. And it's not a bad thing either. Like i said it's entertaining. To me, the biggest problem with this election is that there is a false equivalency being made that states Clinton and Trump are opposite sides of the same coin. That cannot be further from the truth. Whether you like the Clintons or not, Hillary Clinton has not called to stop all Muslims from immigrating to the US. Hillary Clinton has not called Mexicans "rapists" and "murderers." Hillary Clinton has not threatened to back out of NATO because other countries aren't pulling their weight. Hillary Clinton has not wished for the glory days when you could rough up protesters, or offered to pay the legal bills of a guy who punched a protester. Hillary Clinton has not invited a foreign country to hack her competitor and influence the election. In this forum, we have had people laugh off Trump's comments. He's joking! He's talking about an unlikely scenario! This election isn't a simple difference in political philosophies (though that exists - the idea of Trump appointing multiple Supreme Court justices is terrifying). This is about an election where the Republican nominee's temperament makes him singularly unqualified to hold the highest office in the country. This isn't Romney, McCain, either of the Bushes, Reagan, etc. where I disagree with their philosophy on governance or social issues. It's something more than that. Simply put, Donald Trump is a special kind of bad in Presidential politics in my lifetime. If you live in a swing state, please pay attention to the polls. A vote for anyone other than Hillary Clinton in those states is a vote for Trump.
greg775
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) From nowhere to President. How is that a good thing? The dude sat on the sidelines, did dick all for years, and then popped up with a bunch of propaganda and empty promises. Hillary has an incredible history of involvement and accomplishment. Bernie had nothing. What a story! Empty promises? Had nothing? How do you know that? A lot of people still want him leading Sarah Silverman to scold those people. Hillary supporters IMO are cheering on a very weak candidate herself. She has some smoking gun incidents (some of us would say crimes) and in my opinion Bernie brings a lot more to the table. What the hell has she done that's so great? To say Bernie has done nothing is pretty harsh.

I still can't fathom why people had it out for Bernie except the simple reason the Clinton machine must roll on. Chelsea looked Presidential in her seat last night as I watched Bill speak like Bill speaks (very very charming; I told u I loved Bill). bmags
There is no waving of the wand for any candidate, there's a lot of hard work which is what makes her attractive. Though I know you probably read that last bit "makes her attractive" and were like "WHAT! But she's ugly and old! Chelsea looks presidential with her looks! I don't get it!" People blast Bernie with no facts, just opinions, on here but get mad at me on here when I go after the Clintons. The dude sat on the sidelines, did dick all for years, and then popped up with a bunch of propaganda and empty promises. Hillary has an incredible history of involvement and accomplishment. Bernie had nothing. What a story! You're actually making an argument against Ms. Clinton here, whether you realize it or not. How could a 70+ year old socialist/marxist/communist from a state almost nobody has ever been to make it such a horserace....dwarf her fundraising in number of total donations...with almost zero name recognition coming into 2015, and do so much damage when the race should have been over after the first 4-5 primaries and caucuses? The problem for her is that to this day, despite 24 years in the spotlight, many Americans are still unsure of exactly what she has accomplished (that she can legitimately take a large amount of credit for)...for example, if you were to poll the first ten random people on the el tmrw morning and ask them what are Hillary's three main accomplishments, how would they answer? And you act like it's Sanders' fault that he ran such a surprisingly effective campaign and got five out of every six young people...male and female....on his side. This from a balding old guy who slogs through speeches with a strong accent and could easily be a cast member of Seinfeld...we're not talking Mario Cuomo/Jesse Jacksonesque oratory with JFK Jr. looks here.
