TWD getting some mixed reviews, but I really think last night's episode and its underlying violence was needed to move the show forward. We need to understand clearly why Rick would succumb to someone like Negan and the brutality last night demonstrates why.

I thought it was an excellent episode. Easily the most violent scenes ever on "regular" TV. You're right on about showing how Rick changed. It will be interesting to see how this season plays out.

A thought:

After Abraham was killed, I was a little disappointed because I didn't think the death was big enough. But, Negan's sudden killing of Glenn got a "Holy s***!" out of me. That was so brutal.

I knew that was coming (but it really set the tone since we were all expecting one thing). Such a gruesome scene.

Re: Westworld

A couple of those posted theories were debunked last night...but I have no idea where they are going...and I like it! Except I think there is going to be a meaningful collision course between the Man in Black and Delores. But I don't know why yet.

Yeah, and Anthony Hopkins finally showing his power and creepiness there too.

No idea what this "maze" business is though.

He is a brilliant actor. Easily hateable.

Indeed. I haven't read the comics, but I understand that Negan is supposed to be a really bad guy but also can be charming and funny.

I laughed out loud (and felt really bad about it) when he was driving the RV and a zombie's head exploded against the window and Negan said, "Remind you of anyone you know?"

That's what my wife said. His ability to play that character is incredible. When he let Rick off the hook late in the episode she actually found herself liking him.

when Negan turned and was smiling at Rick and Darryl, and Glenn was behind him, I knew.

The taunting of the people he was killing was just chilling

Yep. I knew too. Sucks cause I was quite happy at the time cause I was a big fan of said character (still am). That said, what they did, made the episode so much more powerful. IT took me into the what else is going to happen next.

After watching The Walking Dead season premier last night, the wife and I both looked at each other and questioned why we continue to watch the show. It's become straight up torture porn. Just felt sick watching it.

They basically shot it exactly the way it happened in the comics.

Doesn't mean anything to me since I don't read the comics.

EDIT: Plus, it's completely different when you compare a comic still to video footage of someone's head getting bashed in repeatedly.

I want to get into Westworld really bad but it's just not working.

Also, ever since I've gotten and iPhone my attention span has just been ruined. I have to keep my phone away from me whenever I have time to watch TV. Very annoying.

Lol...I have the same exact problem. I literally have to put my phone on the charger in order for to focus.

I don't either. I'm just saying that it's not like they were making it extra gory just for shock factor or anything like that. They were just following the already established scenes. You can google side-by-side comparisons and see how they copied many of the comic panels almost exactly.

I don't think it was any worse than anything else we've seen on the show already. I remember when they discovered they could cover themselves in the walkers' blood and walk among them unnoticed. One of the characters literally had some intestines hanging around his neck. Or the time that Daryl's brother stuck his bloody stump on that hot plate to stop the bleeding. Or any time we see somebody literally torn apart by the walkers.

The only difference in this episode is that the gore was coming from a character that many people loved. So that's probably made it seem worse.

I'm having the same struggles. It's a combination of the pacing and lack of any real stakes at this point. Oh look! Another robot was killed and will come back to life in the next scene.

I am to the point that it is awful. Have no interest.

Anyone else sticking with Designated Survivor so far?

I am but I'm beginning to wonder how much longer. I will admit, the plot involving the bombing is much better than the president stuff
