Anyway you want to look at this, this is HUGE news for he Sox.

Baltimore, Tigers, Angels, Nationals and Sox left for these big OFers imo.

I honestly think it's down to the O's, Nationals, and Sox.

I just can't see the Angels or Tigers signing one of the big OFers with their luxury tax concerns. I guess it's possible that they could, but it seems unlikely.

Hopefully the O's sign Davis to his mega deal.

Can't see how this deal doesn't help the Sox, years and money.

I felt like Span wasn't worth $10M per, honestly. Plus he's almost 33 & got 3 years.

No chance one of the top 2 signs a 3 year deal, IMO.

3 years/31 million for Span, plus incentives

Wasn't this guy supposedly have to work out for teams? Now he gets a 3 year, 31 million deal?

I do like Span, but I was expecting a 1 year deal for 6-8 million a season. Guess I was way off.

Makes me wonder if we'll end up seeing much of a discount, if any, for some of the remaining free agents if teams are bidding against themselves.

He was injured at the end of last season, so he was probably working out to prove he's healthy to the interested teams.

The guy is still a very good player when healthy. He tallied up 10.8 fWAR in the 3 previous seasons leading up to 2015. His defense has slipped a bit because of age, and it might be time to move him to the corner OF. But I see value in a 3 year contract with $10M AAV.
