fathom
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) To me, he doesn't pass the eye test, and the metrics don't like him much either. DRS hates him, and UZR usually hates him too but said he was OK in 2015. I also worry that Eaton would be a disaster in RF if they get a CF and move Eaton there. bmags
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) I also worry that Eaton would be a disaster in RF if they get a CF and move Eaton there. Why is that a concern? He has a good arm, and RF would seem to have less balls hit on the screws that scares him into playing so deep. fathom
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) Why is that a concern? He has a good arm, and RF would seem to have less balls hit on the screws that scares him into playing so deep. He takes far too long to release a ball, which seems like a recipe for a ton of first to third on a base hit.

GGajewski18
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) @JeffFletcherOCR Angels not one of the teams for Parra, but if Rockies get him expect Angels to take a shot at Blackmon. I was watching MLBN this afternoon and they had Tracy something on the show (forgot his last name). Hhe mentioned that the Angels like Blackmon, and mentioned Nick Trepano as a pitcher, along with some prospects heading to the Rockies in a potential deal. Jose Abreu
I thought Eaton did that to "bait" runners into attempting to advance.
caulfield12
He tries to make the big outfield assist or unnecessary throw more often at USCF, that's for sure... Whether it's related to lack of confidence in fielding the ball...that could be. It seems there are two separate issues though, clean/smooth throwing mechanics and just general instincts reading the bat off the ball (which is also related to positioning and confidence coming in versus going back to the wall). How many years did we watch a veteran in Jermaine Dye catch a ball back on his heels/going backward/flat-footed and then uncork a late throw to home plate that was impressive but was often too late due to the longer amount of time he took to unload the ball and poor fundamentals? That is a double bonus for the White Sox. #1 it will mean the Rockies trade an OF, and it is a low number.

This is exactly what I was thinking as well. Now hopefully they trade CarGo or Blackmon to the Angels, Orioles, or Cardinals.

Yep, makes Fowler's price way lower than I thought it would be. I'd rather have Fowler at something like 3/42 than Cespedes at 4/
hogan873
This almost certainly means the Rockies will be trading an outfielder, correct? I know there was talk of the Sox being interested in CarGo, but have they checked in on Blackmon?
BlackSox13
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) No doubt about it. My guess may have been high at 4/44-48M but 3/24M is very cheap and unlikely, even in this market. Ha ha! Man, was I way the f*** off. Good thing I'm not a GM. For 3/27.5M, I kinda wish the Sox signed him.
OmarComing25
Doesn't this lower the price for a Colorado OF in a trade too? Teams know they have to trade an OF now.

iamshack
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 05:34 PM) You have a good eye fathom. This, according to the some in the org, happens at home for the most part. The Sox have worked with him wearing different glasses, worked with different coaches, etc. to try and fix this. For whatever reason, Eaton cannot pick up the ball off the bat at home. You two seem to be commenting on different things...Fathom, the time to release the ball on a throw, and you, the time it takes to pick up and take a first step to the ball. SoCalSox
This helped the Sox in a sense but in another, it just adds more uncertainty. Now we have to wait for a team to trade for one of their OF'ers. COL was not expected to play in the OF market, which isn't a big deal but seeing where one of CarGo/Blackmon goes will have much more of an impact on the Sox, especially if they land one. blackmooncreeping
If Sox can nab CarGo and hold onto Anderson/Fulmer, make the deal. Is it a stretch to think we could bring in 2 OF's? One on a trade (from Colorado, maybe they would take Laroche, a prospect and $$), and sign one of the remaining FA's (Fowler)? That would leave Sox with Fowler and CarGo playing the corners and move Melky to DH. They'd have to bump up payroll obviously, but it doesn't seem too drastic. Anyone?
