GGajewski18
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 7m7 minutes ago Sources: #Padres still talking to SS Alexei Ramirez, as first reported by @MLBBruceLevine. Would require shorter term than Desmond. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 7m7 minutes ago Signing Ramirez also would enable #Padres to keep 2nd-round pick (1st pick, No. 8 overall, is protected). SD could get six picks in top 100.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) They wouldn't lose that pick. They'd lose the Upton pick. Why do insiders keep saying things like this? Presuming since Upton has not yet signed, technically the comp pick doesn't exist (and won't exist until he signs). So the reported statement is technically true, right now, they would lose the 2nd round pick, however, upon Upton signing a deal (as long as he doesn't end up not signing until after the draft), it will instead be the comp pick that goes (vs. the draft pick). Baron
I would like Desmond on a short deal. His defense is actually still pretty useful at this stage in his career. But his asking price might still be a little high at this point.

Dick Allen
So Desmond turned down a 7 year $107 million extension a year ago. Oops. Edited January 8, 2016 by Dick Allen
BlackSox13
Where does Desmond's suspected defense come from? His range? Desmond's errors have been steadily Ascending the last three years up to 27 in '15. Much rather see what Saladino has to offer and spend the money elsewhere. He might be left without a chair and be forced to entertain a shorter deal. At 25+ errors and a lost draft pick, I don't think the Sox should touch him. His offensive decline is more of an issue.
Lillian
I want the power and the OBP to come from the hole in RF, and I want really solid defense at SS. I hope that the front office doesn't waste money, or a draft pick on signing an offensive SS.
