Dick Allen
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) That's nice of him. I continue to hear that MIke Tirico is a world class guy when it comes to helping out people starting up on the career (tirico also mentioned in article). Yeah, just ask the ladies of ESPN. flavum
Also, it seems like this season is setting up to be a final lap around the country for Hawk, a la Konerko. Say goodbye to some people he's known for a long time, and retire at 75.

I dont remember. I think he has a multi-year deal, but it could easily just transition into an ambassador role if he chooses to retire at the end of the year. Lip Man 1
Hawk signed a two year deal but according to (I think) the Sun-Times was quoted as saying he told JR if the Sox are as bad in 2016 as is 2015 he may call it quits after the year. Harry Chappas
I am a Hawk fan but Benetti is a professional and Stone sounds much better with him. My lord the difference was huge. I finally watched some the game from Saturday and heard him for the first time.

southsider2k5
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) Well there isn't that over load of dominating personalities and opinions. Benetti seemed pretty content to play up to Stone for the same stereotypes that Hawk did (cheap, techno-phobe, etc), plus he takes the route of when Swirski was on the air to ask Stone a lot of questions to have Stone talk a lot. I am curious when Benetti will start to show more of his own personality, or of it this it.

Dick Allen
I don't think you can really judge him yet. Getting excited about spring training homers and strikeouts just sounds phony, so I am glad he isn't trying to sell that. When the games count, and his feet are sufficiently wet will be when you see what he is. I think he will be pretty good, and no knock on him,but I am looking forward to a Hawkeroo sighting in less than 2 weeks.

Agreed, I really like it. The first time i saw his picture I thought he looked like Eugene from Grease so I was expecting a higher voice. Hatchetman
I've only heard a few snippets here and there. Boring is 100x better than idiotic though. Looking forward to it.
Y2Jimmy0
It's refreshing. He's talking about advanced metrics and letting Steve Stone be great. Such an improvement.
hi8is
Like another has said, hard to judge based on spring training games... but I like his tone, enjoy his pace, and also am happy that he brings advanced stats with him. Even with just spring training games to go off - count me in his corner. Hope we do see some more flare and excitement in the regular season thou. Yes, my curiosity also as well when it comes to the excitement part. In a tight game that has some drama in key situations, am looking forward to see what he has to bring. Hoping he unloads. Plus being a newbie, he doesn't seem to shy away from mixing up the one liners with Stone. Sometimes the new guy on the block will be pretty reserved with a veteran. I'm sure that some of his reservations will decrease the more that him and Stone get to work together and get used to one another's little nuances. (lastly he's NOT Chuck Swirsky. Man did I ever fear that that friggin' wet noodle of an announcer was going to get the job).

They play off one another nicely, similar to Jackson and Farmer but it is more natural and organic in nature. I get the feeling he will not be as excitable nor be a pitch man the game will be the game. Seems comfortable being second fiddle to the professional but also willing to bring about a good dry sense of humor.
